So, L is probably one of the best anime characters that ever lived, just saying x). I've never drawn fanart before, and this was a lot more fun than I thought it would be! It was interesting to take samples of the anime and manga to try to recreate his character. But I like how this turned out x)

first stages of digital coloring... doubt I'll ever finish it though now that I'm back to school.

First off, I have to say that I love Death Note! Like so much, it's a great anime. I was more fond of Kira than L, but that's just personal preference xD
Anyway!
1. There's something slightly awkward about the arm. It's clearest in the first picture but I'm struggling to put my finger on what it is. Something to do with the length or the angle that just makes it look unnatural. I think it's the angle. One thing I can say for certain though is that the width of the arm is wrong. You're fine from the wrist to the finger-tips but just below the wrist, where the arm starts to widen out. That happens too quickly on the left side and on the right the bump of the bone is too pointed. It needs rounding off a little bit.
2. My next comment is actually for the other arm! Or the lack of it. You need there to be something more there and the shading is all off for what's missing from the picture. Basically, either you need to crop the image in a little before the shoudler and the arm starts or you're going to have to draw in at least the beginning of them as L has very slim shoulders and there should be at least something to be seen of the arm, even if it's only in the folds of the shirt.
3. The eyes, the expression, so much love! Both of those parts are absolutely perfect.
4. The collar is a little too stiff and 2D. I know you're not entirely finished but even in the outline, compared to the rest, it's a bit too angular and abrupt.
5. The hair is really nice but I wish you hadn't cut part off the top as it's slightly distracting and the ends are just a little too neat. I actually like the outline of the hair in the first two versions far more than I do the more finalised, coloured in version. Sorry?
If you ever do finish this, please let me know! I'd love to see the final version and I might be able to leave you more useful feedback xxx
HELLO!!!! ASDFGHJKL I LOVE YOU!!!! This is adorable.
The style that you did this in is really cute and definitely befitting of L's personality, I believe. I think the only two problems I have with this (and I'm going to be sooo much less detailed in this review than Kitty, I apologize!) are the arm and the collar.
First off, the arm looks a little stumpy. I know how difficult it is to put arms in different positions without losing the length or the straightness or the quality, but I think if you only elongate it a bit more, then it would be a little less awkward. Right now, if you look carefully, his hand is almost the same size as his forearm. His hand is proportionate I think, so if you just keep in mind that the forearm should be a little bit less than twice the size of your hand (unless I'm completely measuring my hand/arm wrong) then you should be fine next time.
The collar looks a bit stiff compared to the rest of the shirt. The folds in the sleeve are rounded off and they look softer, but the collar has a few sharp points to it, that probably should also be rounded off, just so it looks a bit softer and less stiff and weapon like haha
Let me just say.... I LOVE YOUR SHADING!!! The hair, the shirt, the eyes, the face, everything is PERFECT!!! Love it so much. I can't tell if I like the unedited one or the digitally colored one better... I think I'm leaning more towards the unedited one just because of the black and white-ness... I think the shaded hair and the dark circles under his eyes stand out more in the unedited one, and I like it a lot
If there's a 50/50 chance of getting something wrong go for it anyway because there is also a 50/50 chance of getting it right

I must say, L is my favorite Death Note character~ <3 If I could marry that boiii. . .
But anyways. . . xD
I won't go into detail since I'm pretty sure everything I noticed has been covered, and I wish I could give you advice on drawing, but I don't draw often~ When I do, it's with charcoal, and I don't think the same tips would apply~ xD But yes, I'm thinking you foreshortened the arm a bit, and the angles of the collar bone are rough-looking. Honestly, I didn't even notice the lack of a left side until reading one of the previous posts - I guess I was focused on everything else~ But if you want to go for a fading look, I say you should darken the shirt a bit and then allow it to fade into the white~
Your shading is BEAUTIFUL~ <3 Ohmygoshh~
I also find this really does fit L's personality - and I'd have to say I like the black and white original the best~ I think it's because my aesthetics don't agree with brown hair and blue eyes~ Don't ask me what it is, but I'm not a big fan of the pairing~
Overall, you did a lovely job! I'd love to see more of your works~
