Creative Writing College Classes

I'm thinking about taking a Creative Writing Class at a college. Have any of you taken one before? How did you like the whole experience?

I took Creative Writing: Fiction and Creative Writing: Poetry during my freshman year at college. I had a blast. They have been my favorite classes so far, and I am approaching my second semester as a sophomore. The professor, who is still my favorite professor, organized it in a way that just worked. After the first two weeks, everyone stopped being shy. We were all comfortable with each other, you know, giving and receiving critique. The in-class exercises were also helpful (and a lot of fun).

Personally, I had a great experience. I would do a little research on the professor -- find out who's teaching it, maybe visit the English department during his or her office hours.

I'm a creative writing major, and I've loved all the creative writing classes I've taken. Especially those set up in a workshop format (reading and critiquing/reviewing each others work). But definitely take KFMATA's advice and look into the professors teaching the courses. Ask other students who've taken them, or even visit the professor in their office hours to talk about the class. Any class can be a bad experience with the wrong professor.
