Image

The goal of this picture was to give me practice at drawing real people, which is a lot different than my usual manga stuff x) I had several versions of this where the eyes were too bright or too bold or too big, so it was kinda difficult to get away from the aggerated style. Also, the skin took a lot of work but I like how it turned out.

I could use as much advice as possible since I'm pretty new at this. Thanks :)

This is brilliant! it really is!There's just a few things i'd like to point out about it-

Eyes: Perfect! Absolutely love them, the soft brown colour and the eye it self is incredibly effective. I love it.
Mouth: I feel as though the teeth make the mouth look deformed, not to mention the fact that the mouth is far too low as opposed to the nose. When you draw teeth, try and concentrate more on making them look like teeth...
Chin: It's too small, i think you should make it slightly longer, i just feel as though there's not enough there to make that part of the picture realistic unlike the cheek and eyes which look incredibly realistic!
Nose: A bit weird, probably because it's joined to where the eyebrow stops... It also looks too wonky, too far to the right. You should make it longer and less pointy to the side, it just looks flat and unrealistic. The nostrils also look slightly unrealistic.
Neck: It's way too long, unless that's what you were going for? You've also got the right shoulder a lot higher than the left, and this adds to weirdness of the long neck. Try bringing the left shoulder up a bit.
Hair: Love it! it's so detailed and realistic! Love the flowiness of it aha :'D
Other than that, the shading's amazing and it is a very good picture, just needs a little work ;)

Hey there!
I'll just add on to what MysticalBlood has mentioned, but I'd like to start of by saying that this was well done for someone pretty new at it!
I love the shading, except the part of her skin that meets her right sleeve, you can see the stroke line hasn't really blended in and the two darker beige streaks across the central area below her neck.
Ear: I'm not an expert at all, but her ear looks pulled a bit too far back to me. Perhaps try angling it more vertically.
Eyebrows: They look rather flat compared to the rest of the lady's face, since they're simple brown lines with almost uniform thickness. Maybe vary that thickness a bit? (But I realise the lady you modelled this after may possess such fine eyebrows xD)
Lips: I've always been fail at drawing lips, but you could give them more character! The fine lines on our lips create impressions, some more obvious that you can paint in the shadow, etc. in if you want! ^^
Speaking of which, isn't there an indent in the middle between our upper lip and nose?
Anyway, other than that, I also love her defined cheekbone, the detailed waves in her hair and those soft brown eyes!
Hope I could be of help :D

Hey there Blacksheep!

This is very well made, I like the colors that you've placed into this. The shadowing is great, you were able to shade the right places! Her hair is okay, I like the detail you placed on the strands on her hair.

What I like most about this work is that even though you placed the angle on one side of her face, you can still see the symmetrical balance in her face which means that there is beauty in it. The only problem that I have is that her neck is quite long, maybe you should shorten the length of it. The skin is well detailed.

Overall, this is a really great work worthy of my admiration, your effort on this deserves praise. :)

Hi there.

So, I think that you have a lot of potential, but as far as this particular thing goes, it needs a lot of work. You've created a rather flat face with some weird proportions. First, start with the chin and lips. I've never done this kind of art myself, but usually stick to drawing, so if some of my points don't apply, feel free to ignore them. The lips here are severely defined. Rather than drawing lines to show where they are, why not change the color and shading to soften them and make them look more natural? You could of course create the appearance of makeup by defining them so clearly, but then I'd suggest adding makeup to the rest of the face as well.

The chin is extremely disproportionate. First off, you've done the shading of the jawline rather well, but picked and awkward angle with which to practice. Make the chin longer, and don't be afraid to have her a bit heavier than what you have now. Her lines are severe, almost scarily skinny, especially with the amount of shading you have her cheek.

Next, the eyes and neck. The eyes are well done for the most part, especially they eyelid and shading with the nose, but they're placed in a very flat way. Maybe try adding something below the eye, a bit of highlighting and then shading to add some definition. Also, don't be afraid to expand the brow a bit more on the right side of her face (our right) because it feels rather flat to me.

The neck. Now, as I mentioned before the proportions of the size of her head are a bit off to begin with, but you've greatly lengthened the neck as well with your manner of shading. Shading should look natural; right now, she looks almost spiky in the differences of the shading.

Lastly, the nose and ear. Lengthen the nose. Short noses are usually reminiscent of bats. The ear is rather small, and pulled back. Look at someone's ear-- ears are actually rather large, stretching from about mid-eye to mouth usually, and sit pretty straight considering how we usually assume they do. Great shading in the middle of the ear though, you really got that down well and it's a difficult thing to accomplish.

All in all, despite my nitpicking, this was well done, especially if you don't normally do realistic things. Work on proportions a bit. Don't overshade-- I've always found that not shading enough is better than shading too much. Great job!

Hey! It's been a long time since I've been able to review some of your work. Anyway, this is really neat! It would take me forever to get that kind of tone, especially on the computer, for the skin. But I really suck at the whole technology thing, lol. Anyway. I think there's only one thing I'd work on and that'd be the chin area. Other than that, this is really neat =]
