I noticed that dreams are a recurring topic of conversation here on YWS, and I'm very interested in them myself, so this is where you can come to discuss such things! Anything pertaining to the dream world is welcome.

I'll start!

I had a dream last night (more of a flash, really, which means it was reallyreally short and I wasn't fully asleep) where my vision zoomed in on a beige keyboard. The letters were all fuzzy, and then I was able to read three words in succession-- symmetry, rhythm, and existence. Symmetry and rhythm read left to right across the keyboard, but rhythm read from top to bottom.
Then my dad woke me up. D: I tried to re-enter the dream (you can do that, if you try) and saw courageous and outrageous, both reading horizontally, before I actually had to go get breakfast. Or maybe that was my nap. I forget.

If you want, I can go into what I think it means and stuff, but I want this to be fun, and for others to participate! So please share your dreams, and let me know if you want to know more about them. I'm still a rank amateur, but I'm learning their hidden meanings. And if you don't believe they have meaning, then hey--story ideas! Everyone wins, right? ;3

Well, I can copy/paste this (and I still remember the dream) from my dA... Oh, and y'all likely won't get a lot of this, but Chase is my beautiful chow-golden mutt that we lost last June; Hershey was my mother's black cat we lost around the same time; and Bandit was a strong, large tabby housecat that wandered away in April. Nova and Serena are my cats - Serena's my sister's, but I take care of them both.

I had a nightmare last night [this was about August 28] about Hershey and Chase. This hasn't happened before... ever. Not a year and two months ago. Not any time between then and now. Just now.

It was just so... weird, I guess, that I didn't admit to myself until over halfway through that it was a nightmare about them. First I was working in this... restaurant place... it kind of looked like the Roadhouse, but I'm not sure what to make of that - I was attempting to do too many things at once - and then I had to dogsit while in the restaurant for this weird lady. Two dogs. One of them looked too much like Chase; I actually think I was crying in the dream. And I don't mean he had the same fur colour or the same bone structure, I mean he looked exactly like Chase.

Later in the dream, there was an element that I might very curiously include in some kind of writing. I was at home, and there were too many cats. There was Nova, and Serena, and these two weird cats that shouldn't have been in there but they were. One of them was a little fluffy kitten - like... the colour of dirt and sand mixed, about - but the other was a fully grown (and fairly heavy) black cat. Hershey. Same fur colour, same texture, same weight from when I was ten or so, same shape. He was less fat than he was when he was last alive, and there weren't as many problems with his health. In my dream, I literally held him up to a light (and for some reason all the lights were freaky and dim) to check his eyes for cataracts like he had early last year... nothing. He wasn't blind or deaf or anything.

The weirdest part was that when I started petting the Hershey-cat in my dream, once I was calm and sure he wasn't going to hurt me, was that I seemed to slow down so much. My hand that was on his head just kind of stopped, and he looked up at me, and I couldn't move even at quarter speed. I tried moving in slow-mo, picking him up and breaking his jaw. I mean, I seriously broke his jaw. I held his head in my hand and freaking squeezed until I heard something break because I was freaked out and that would be my literal reaction to a long-gone version of a supposedly dead cat that made me slow down. But even when I broke his jaw, he didn't react and nothing happened. Then he wouldn't let me put him down until Mom came into the picture, and I focused on the weird new kitten, who has no connection to my life whatsoever.

And this has been my dream ramble. Thank you. Also, if y'all have any clue what you think this might possibly mean... besides "loss" or whatever because it really couldn't be... please. This was freaky, and it's one of those dreams you have once and you never want to have again.

I keep a dream journal so I've got quite a few written down.

Best one I ever had involved going to a cake shop and eating lots of cake, The strawberry parfait was so good!
please grant me my small wish; (love me to the marrow of my bones)

I have apocalypse dreams a lot. Usually it's a nuclear apocalypse or just a big war that kills almost everyone. I'm almost always a survivor, though. One that stands out in my mind was a dream where a series of storms destroyed the earth. First there was a meteor that hit the earth and unleashed a wave of fire for hundreds of miles around it. Then their was a big lightning storm. Then a flood.

Last night I had a dream that was like a bad horror movie. -_- I was in a haunted hotel with a bunch of strangers, and a demon was bent on killing us, so we were trying to escape. I remember being terrified and thinking we got away, only to die in a car crash that it caused. >.<

psychopaths and mystery writers.

Yes, I'm very late. Sorry.

So I asked my dad, and this is what he came up with. One thing I thought was very interesting--we both felt very strongly about the cats, but we had different interpretations. I felt that the cat was a pet sin, that it was slowing you down, and by breaking its jaw you were taking its ability to speak--to tell you what to do, or something. My dad had a very different version. You're the best person to decide which it is.

Far From Home

Oftentimes we are allowed to have nightmares to warn us that changes are needed in our lives. I believe the restaurant scene represents that she desires company/fulfillment perhaps emotional or spiritual nourishment, but she is too busy wearing herself out doing “too many things at once” in order to sit down and enjoy a “meal” or dine with friends. Having to dog sit for the lady speaks of some ill or bad influence in her life (could be a person) that perhaps is dividing her attention (two represents division or separation). There is a significant difference between being with her long lost pet, Chase, and the other dog. Perhaps she wants the love & friendship she experienced with Chase but also is confronted with someone else who is more of a false friend.

The scene at home represents the dreamer. Cats can represent independence and rebellion, but I also think they refer to the dreamer and her mother. It seems Hershey represents her mother and she is examining the cat (her relationship with her mother) but the light is dim, meaning little or no illumination or understanding. She pets the cat once she is sure it will not hurt may reflect her desire to improve the relationship, but uncertainty about getting hurt more from Mom. Time slows (or stands still) which I take to indicate that things have not changed since her childhood. Breaking of his jaw is her desire to break free from her mother’s influence but can be a warning of rebellion. There are right ways & wrong ways to bring separation between mother & daughter and she needs to do so in a healthy way, not a rebellious way. When Mom shows up she turns to the kitten which I think is a reflection of her. Kittens are innocent & playful and she desires to return to that young part of herself and gain some healing and freedom.

Finally the title is right on. She finds herself far from the safety & security of her idealized home and wants to find her way back there.

Moi? I have loads. Very vivid ones. Once I had one that people were being kidnapped everytime they went in the water by underwater robots controlled by weirdos. It was so long that I used it as a plot but I changed a lot of it. Changed the antag, setting, got rid of the bots and rockets... It was a mess. But fun.

Um... well, I had this really freaky dream once. I went into my room and put on a nightgown - I even remember which one it was, it's a real nightgown I have - and when I turned around to face my closet door mirror, I saw that my face was literally melting off of my head. So I tried to grab it, but it just kind of half-fell into my hands, although it was still sort of attached to my skull. I tried to yell or something, but my jaw didn't work. It was so lifelike. I remember what my face felt like - it was all soft and leathery...
