The Hunting Dog - Cover

I'm still working on the new draft of the story itself, but I like tinkering with book covers...and don't worry, folks, it's designed with 100% original photos, taken by me. I made it using Microsoft Office Powerpoint '07, since I don't have any proper image editing software.

I keep feeling like it needs something more, but I'm not sure if that's just me being my usual self. Critiques are always appreciated.

Looking at the title and then clicking on the photo I expected one thing, a dog. Though the eery background image is good enough to go along with the word "hunting," I still think a dog would also contribute to this photo/cover. Perhaps maybe somehow have a fading image of a dog or its eyes in the background. The cover is good but I just think it needs a dog to go along with the title. You could use a picture similar to this one that has a wolf, Siberian Huskies resemble wolves. Just a thought.

Hey! Go you, using, your own photos, for one, and making a cover, for two. I think the only thing this really needs is some more texture in the background. Right now you have a smooth blue BG, with a prickly, very textured foreground. Whatever program you are using, you can find ways to add texture easily - low opacity textures, assorted brushes, even changing the background completely. I also think a change of font could help make your cover just that little bit more interesting without the viewer noticing, but maybe that's just me being my picky old self.
