Artist Arena "Horror" Contest Entry

Hey I was a little scrunched on time while I was drawing this, so it's a bit sloppier than I would've liked xP Originally, I wanted to color the girl completely, but I came up with the idea of just tampering with the levels to give her a ghost-like appearance. Most of the time was spent coloring the background and shading the blood splatter, which was surprisingly fun ^_^ The idea behind this character is that she is a 20-some year old woman turned vampire who looks nice on the outside but will have no qualms about tearing your family apart xP



I named her Vanessa (obviously) and I'm regretting writing out her name in the pic. It's distracting to me, bleg.



And I drew this one a while back, so it's not part of the contest, but I thought it fit the theme so it's a little bonus pic for you to look at ^_^

Hello there! I don't think I've reviewed anything of yours for a while.

It's kind of hard to review something where you were pressed for time, because most of the things that are a little off, were just because you were in a hurry. But I'll try!

Vanessa... well she certainly is creepy. Her left hand is at an odd angle and her right is very distorted. I love her outfit, but the belt it very flat. The sleeves, however, are beautifully shaded.

Her left eye is kind of blending into itself, and I think maybe you could get rid of a couple lines on her nose... I feel like it's too defined by the line. I love the textures and the colors of the background (the purple accents are nice), and her hair, as always, is a masterpiece in itself.

Her name in the pic... I could take it or leave it. I like how it's not too bold and the handwriting fits the mood. Not that your handwriting is creepy, just that it's not blocky or stiff.

I remember seeing that second one somewhere!

So the only things that really stood out to me that could be improved were her hands. The one resting on her chest is flat and it seems just a little out of proportion. The way it comes out of the sleeve at that particular angle almost makes it look like it doesn't even belong to her. You know, like when you put both hands behind your back while someone else puts their forearms through yours and moves them around while you talk? Both of her hands have extremely pointy fingers, but that's okay, hands are INCREDIBLY difficult to draw.

But like I said, those are the only things I can see that really stand out to me, and for being in a hurry, it looks pretty great, I could never pull it off and it still look this good

I'm loving the blood, very, very much, in fact. I'm not sure about her name either, it seems out of place the way you have it... Maybe you should have written it with the blood instead, and put some hand prints on the wall around it like she's an incredibly psychotic ghost....

And I still love that second picture n_n

Wow! You're amazing (again!) It was really scary. It fits the theme and you've gotten better with the arms. Still the left (my left) arm need just a little work. But overall. Awesome! Sorry I was away for so long. (technical difficulties) =P I enjoyed reviewing your artwork.

Hey there!

First off, I really like this. The folds and details in her dress/shirt are fantastic; I know that designs can be a pain in the butt and very time-consuming, but I can tell you put some effort into these ones.

The hair is amazing! Excellent job with the textures.

I agree that her hands and face could use some work, but those are minor details.

Just out of curiosity, did you use a computer program for the background or did you do it by hand? Either way, I love it. The blood splatters look great (eh...that sounded weird...), especially with the textures and colors of the background.

Personally, I think her name looks good like that. The way it's written, it feels like she signed the puddle of blood herself.

Overall, very creepy drawing. Keep up the good work!


Oh, and the 'bonus pic' is very cool. Makes me wonder what the story behind that one is.
