I'm not going to try to pretend I know what it feels like to be bullied for being gay. I don't know how it feels to be taunted because of sexual orientation. I don't know how it feels to get beat up, to have someone punch or kick you because your gay. I don't know what being yelled at or isolated or called names because of who I love.
But for those of you who do, please remember it does get better.
I just read this heartbreaking story about a 15 year old from Canada who committed suicide. He was constantly bullied because he was gay and felt like one day, he couldn't take it anymore. A couple weeks ago, I read a similar story about a 14 year old in America who committed suicide because of the same reason. And before that, a 19 year old from Rhode Island who jumped off a bridge because he couldn't take being made fun of.
To the people who bully, even subconsciously calling a friend a fag or ranting about how your math teacher or co-worker is so gay: It's not funny. It's not cute. You may not realize it, but people kill themselves over this. It hurts. A lot.
And to those of you who ever feel like you can't deal anymore, don't hurt yourself. There's too much beauty in this world that you haven't seen yet.
It gets better.
