CHAPTER 5
The lights came on suddenly, causing Albin to pause for a moment before looking back at the Seers. One of them - holding a flame in his (or her) palm - nodded at him in assurance. A shiver crept up Albin’s spine as he continued onward, venturing deeper and deeper into the unknown - at least to him.
Soon the coolness started to set in, and the light dimmed to nothing. The earth - not only beneath them - but surrounding them started to rumble. Albin stood as he were, his legs bent to maintain balance. A stairwell slowly emerged from the floor a few feet ahead of him, increasing in height as the rumbling got worse. The earth revealed an opening at the top of the stairwell - one that was identical to the entrance.
As he reached the peak of the stairwell, the scent of pheris drifted lazily into Albin’s nostrils. The Pheris trees stood tall, shielding and surrounding a narrow path that led to what seemed to be a point that pierced the horizon. Albin looked back, uncertain of whether to follow the path. The wind Seer stood beside Albin, her feet on the ground this time, while the other two ambled silently on the path. The remaining two followed the latter.
Albin noticed now, from the side of his eyes, that the wind Seer was shorter than he was. He imagined what she looked like beyond the mask she wore. A beautiful face? Or perhaps one that was grotesque... Though her voice proved otherwise: It was silken and smooth, one that emitted tenderness yet urgency at the battle previously.
His thoughts wandered aimlessly as they walked toward on the path. The point that had been visible now stretched, revealing the tip of a building. A mansion? No, it was another kingdom. Albin thought for a moment about the unusual place they have arrived in. From a kingdom to yet another; what are these Seers... ?
*
Albin feared that he would’ve gotten put in yet another jail - or killed - but it lessened as soon as they moved not to the gates, but to the side. They took a right turn as soon as they gates were spotted, leading to the walls. However, there seemed to be a specific spot in which they stopped at. He could see that as the three Seers were carefully looking at the wall as well as the ground. Soon, though, they stopped and stared at the wall.
Albin stared as a shape jutted out of the wall. A door. He looked back, noticing that only one Seer was now staring at the wall. The other passed Albin and pulled the door back, displaying what looked to be a prestigious building - if not for the walls.
Dust layered the walls of the place, covering the old wood that was the structure of the place. The floor would make an occasion creak as one stepped on it, even more so for the stairs. Old, it was, the place, though it was built to endure Time. However, what mesmerized Albin even more was the interior decoration. It was in contrast with the appearance of the building itself. As he entered, he noticed the intricate designs on the furniture and the position in which they were placed. Everything was seemingly perfect, which puzzled Albin to no end; because the place was empty.
The two Seers went ahead of Albin and the wind Seer - after nodding at her - and headed to a short corridor on the left of the door of the house (which they were facing, for they had entered through the back.).
Albin turned to look at the wind Seer.
“Follow the two,” She explained, seeing the puzzled look on Albin.
“This... Where exactly is here?” Albin asked.
“All in good time...” He could hear the smile in her voice - if she was even smiling.
“I’d rather now,” he demanded.
The Seer did not respond, but instead waited silently for him to move, staring at him behind the mask. Albin grunted, intending to show suspicion and irritation, and dragged his feet toward the corridor.
