Hello, everyone! Usually, in real life, I'm called Chelsi (well, obviously), but on this website I'm Stargirl101. It is based on the book 'Stargirl' by Jerry Spinelli, and I would like to try my hardest to be like her, not letting anyone faze me and to be as different 8) as I possibly can. I like writing and I plan to become a writer one day, but I decided to go on this site as I can get more varied opinions instead of nice little comments that you get from family and friends. I want raw critism from honest people, hopefully constructive instead of destructive as I have slight issues with people knocking what I do.
Anyway, I've been reading some of the stuff on this site, and apart from a few typos, the work is very good. I enjoy reading other people's work as I can use it to help with my own writing. That does not mean I steal people's ideas and make them my own. That's plagiarism. :(
I'm not the best person at writing or speaking without offending someone or even something, but I hope no one finds anything in this offensive.
Over & Out,
Sincerely,
Stargirl101

You definitely came to the right site.

I go back to my work from when I joined and its almost humorous. This site has helped me create a new voice in my writing and has helped my punctuation so much. And mainly it was because of the criterion I received on this site. I love it for that. My English teachers do too. ;)

But that's what we are here for! We stray away from just simple saying it was good. Some critiques may seem harsh but are not directed at you personally and aren't meant to knock you. They simply are meant to help you get better and for you to understand the minds of the readers. I got a fair few of nasty reviews in my time. But in the end, it just makes you better.

You seem kind, and seem to understand we like to stay away from chat speak and all caps. You also seem very compassionate and nervous about offending people. Don't be. We are all understanding on here.

I hope to see you around, and if you need help, feel free to PM me.

Hi there Stargirl, *throws confetti*

Welcome to YWS :D

May I start by saying that I find your real life name cute? Oops, I just did that without asking. :D

Anyway, as Incognito said, this is the best site to join if you want to improve your writing. There are a lot of friendly and helpful people here who are willing to help everyone by reviewing what they write. Everyone has their own reviewing method, so you may come across many opinions and helpful pointers that would certainly improve what you've written.

Also as Incognito mentioned, a lot of reviewers write direct reviews that in a way they may seem harsh, but in reality, they are trying to do their best to help you improve what you've written. I sometimes tend to be direct in my reviews.

Now I have a few questions for you, *suddenly becomes serious*

1) What genre of stories do you write?
2) What are your favourite books?
3) Any other hobbies you have other than writing?
4) Whose (in your opinion) the worst actor/actress?
5) What kinds of songs do you like?

Now, I'll be solemnly waiting for you to answer those questions. :D

Anyway, if you have any questions, please feel free to PM me and I'll try to answer to the best of my ability.

I hope you enjoy your stay here. ;)

Thanks for the replies. I feel genuinely welcome (not sure if I spelt that right).
You seem like very interesting people. Which is good as I like interesting people.
Chirantha, to answer your 5 questions
1) I write romances (doomed beyond comparison mostly), fantasy (it's so fictional it's real), reality (real life scenarios), and occasionally horror, which I only right when I'm in a scary mood (when I've watched something like 'The Ring' or 'Mirrors'
2) I love the Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan, alot of Jodi Picoult, I've tried Stephanie Meyer and the only book I like that she has written is 'The Host'. Also I like the 2 Stargirl books by Jerry Spinelli, and some Eva Ibbotson.
3) I love reading, dancing, cooking, athletics (sprinting), and art
4) I don't like Kirsten Stewart in any of the Twilight films. She acts so helpless. And she does nothing to protect herself as she always expects Edward to save her.
5) I love MCR, 30 Seconds to Mars, Yann Tiersen, Green Day, etc. I like Punk/Rock, with some classical mixed in. But it usually depends what mood I'm in. How about you?
Incognito, thanks for the advice. The whole thing about bad grammar, I hate it. My English teachers always comment about how good my grammar is, and they say how everyone else in the class just don't care as they just think it's just school work. To me, it's so much more as I have been taught by my parents to be articulate and use good grammar as it will get you far.
Thanks for the replies, and I will try to read your posts and I will post something very soon.

If you think we are interesting, you would have no word to describe the other people on this site. ;) Because you'll definitely meet a lot of unique people around the site.

Now, for your answers,

1) Not so much of a romantic person, but I do love fantasy and horror. I haven't actually written a horror story yet, so my ability lies in writing Fantasy stories mixed with adventure and mystery, plus some romance in between.
Oh, you've watched "The ring"? That was my first, intentionally watched, horror movie. And I became addicted to horror after watching it though. Currently waiting for "The Ring 3D" to come. :D

2) You like the "Percy Jackson" series? *starts jumping around the room* Me too! Although, I only got to read the first book, I'm trying to get my hands on the others as well. Well, I also like Dan Brown's books and Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series. *points at avatar*

3) Other than dancing, cooking and athletics, I love art and reading. ;)

4) Hmm, I haven't actually watched the Twilight series. Just a few parts here and there. I don't actually have a least favourite actor or actress, because everytime I think of one, I feel like he/she does some part in the progress of the movie. :)

5) I love rock, pop and instrumental music. The songs from Linkin Park, Nickelback, The Script, Green Day are some of my favourites. Also, I love the Glee versions of songs, and their albums. I know some people don't, but I like their songs, specially their original songs.
