I don't usually write this type of poem, but it kind of just...came to me. I realize the rhyming scheme isn't perfect, but I didn't want to mess up the content with throwing in words just because they rhymed. Hope you enjoy it!

Once in a while,

You may observe

All the things you are,

All the things you hold.

Sometimes, you may glimpse at yourself,

At your very soul,

And think “Who are you?”

And “Where did you come from?”

You must realize that what you are is beauty,

You must love your very being

And know that you’re not defined by people nor possessions,

But instead by what you choose to be.

When you begin to know yourself, you begin to love who you are,

For without first knowing, how can you expect to love?

So forgive yourself for past mistakes,

And learn from those misgivings instead of staring at the scars.

For how can one expect to live life while still looking backwards?

Do you drive with your eyes on the roads behind you? No!

You quickly peek in the rearview mirror at those mistakes in your past,

Making sure that they are not sneaking up from behind to hold you in their grasp.

For I am no better than you or the next person,

And you are no better than I or anyone else.

For we are all equal

And all have our set of failures in the past.

So love your neighbor as yourself,

Knowing they are not perfect either

But are the perfect version of who they are

And that no one else has their exact share of scars.

Hey! I love your poem! I did have a hard time coming up with the rythm. I felt it should have more of a beat especially when it is a lyrical poem. Even though it was hard to get in the tone of the beat I really enjoyed the message that you send thru this. There are a few things that stick out to me:

You must realize that what you are is beauty

This seemed a little awkward to me and I think with a little tweeking it could be better.

Making sure that they are not sneaking up from behind to hold you in their grasp.

I realize you're tryin g to make this line rhyme with the one before it but it just seems more bulky then it should be.

And that no one else has their exact share of scars.

Exact share of scares...I realize what you are trying to say....but it just seems a little improper. Maybe a different wording instead of exact shares...It's kinda hard to put my finger.

However, I really like it and keep up the good work! I love your lyrical poem and can't wait to see your other works!!! Keep writing! :)
