Simon Pearson Funky wants me to post the time of day, and that there's not going to be any classes today.

2:00pm

After walking away from the camp head, I introduced myself to Beatrice.

"Hi, I'm Simon. Looks like we're gonna have our hands full." I grinned.

"I'm Bee. Nice to meet you. Excited?" Our feet kicked up dust on the path.

"Oh definitely." I saw a few kids running around the camp, heading towards their cabins. "Well, I'm gonna go see who's here and get my stuff in my cabin. I'll see you around." She nodded.

"Yep, I'll see you." She turned away then turned back. "Oh, and good luck. I think we're both gonna need it." She winked and headed off.

Josh

"Bye Dad!" I yelled as the truck pulled out of the parking lot, throwing up a cloud of dust. I had my duffel bag in one hand, trumpet case in the other. I turned and faced the camp, and there was nobody doing anything. Oh well, we had the whole summer to have a good time. I did notice that there was a beach, and a rock wall in the main building. After taking in the scene for a moment, I managed to pull my map out of my pocket and locate my cabin. When I walked inside there was already another camper laying on one of the beds.

"Hey," he said. The kid looked no older than twelve, and he sounded really depressed.

"Hi, my name's Josh," I replied as I threw my bags onto the bunk I chose. I always wanted the top bunk, and since there were like five beds in here I could choose. The heat was coming to my cheeks, I could feel it, just like I always felt it when I met someone new.

"My name's Jackson," was all he said before I interrupted.

"Cool, hey, I got to go, I'll see you later, 'k?" was all I said before I was out the door. I didn't even have time to listen to his answer, I just set off, exploring the rest of the camp.
"Is this the real life, or is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality."

Simon Pearson Still no classes today.

2:45pm

I looked at the clipboard Paul gave me. It was the camp schedule, the layout of the camp, a list of the boys I'd be keeping an eye on and what cabin they're in, and the classes I'd be teaching. I noticed in the upper right hand corner was something scribbled in pen.

"Simon, I hear you play the trumpet. Do you think you could do reveille in the morning to wake up the kids? Thanks"

I smiled. I could play reveille in my sleep. Of course, it'd wake me up so it wouldn't be in my sleep, but that wasn't the point.

Walking across the field to the boys' cabins, I saw how pretty the camp was. It looked like those postcards people send you, only there were kids walking around in the background.

I entered the first cabin, Cabin A, and saw a few guys sitting around talking and introducing themselves.

"Hey guys, I'm Simon and I'm your camp counselor." They all nodded and waved. "I need to do a check-in to see who's here." I looked down at my sheet. "Um, lemme know if I say your name's wrong." They exchanged amused looks, knowing that I would probably screw up their names. I knew it too.

"Gee-zon Corazone?" An Asian looking kid put his hand up.

"That's me. And you said it right." He actually looked kind of disappointed. I think he wanted to correct me. I checked his name off the list.

"Justin Spell?" Another kid looked up.

"Yep. Here." He nodded.

"Okay. Um, Torrey Dumas?" A kid with those glasses and black hair looked up.

"Hola." He grinned.

"Last but not least, Jack Holeson?" No one spoke up. I marked him as "Possibly here".

"Alright guys, I'll see you around then. We'll go over the rules and stuff later." They all went back to talking, leaving me wondering how to appear cool to a group of teenagers.

I'll get back to the second cabin later.

I sat by the lake with my lighter and some firecrackers in my hand. It seemed a shame to waste a few so early into camp but like i say, if you don't live now you wont survive till later. It doesn't make much sense for sane people but sane people are boring. I looked in my pocket, gun still in there. "I just know im going to lose this thing" I think. Oh well, at least when I do there will be some excitement here. I light one and toss it in the lake. Thats the best thing about firecrackers, once their lit they don't go out. even underwater. It sinks down for a few seconds and an eruption under the calm water blasts the chilling liquid against me. It's now 7:30 and the trumpets blaring, I should probably head to breakfast soon but I sit a while longer. It calms me to see how the water ripples and fades back as if nothing had happened. I sigh, stand, and walk back to the camp. I see the counselor, simon i think, walking back from my cabin. He looks deep in thought and so i follow him. He hm's and haw's over something stupid probably and I walk back to the cabin unoticed.
