Nah, but you would probably need a seal/mark of some sort FOR the papers to be official? And Papa Lein's still a very highly respected man in Pash, so that might add to the trust factor? xD Maybe?
True. I doubt Darren trusts him. And like I said in chat; If a noble without papers is taken in as a slave and someone brings their papers round, would Darren or whoever actually believe that the papers belong to that person?
Basically, it would be very easy to pretend to take someone else's papers and pretend to be them. So, there MAY be some doubt as to the real identity of the person / Lein's trustworthiness on Darren's part. Maybe.... Up to you, DSF on whether Darren will trust Papa L's word or not.

As far as Rein getting captured, I imagine it's going to be up to Maura to spring him since he's rather old to be a slave. Or it could end up in the scene that Scar and I talked about a long while back when Rian and Rein meet...and Rian beats Rein senseless.
I wonder if Rian would be inclined to throw Rein out into the streets after his beating...or perhaps that's when Maura springs him from a holding cell or whatever.
...unless Rian would rather keep Rein around in the palace for other reasons.

Great. This goes against everything Lein believes in... but. >.> He is determined to get Lou back, so. He'll figure out where he is somehow-- Lein quite obviously knows people, considering his position and popularity in the city.
As for this whole Rein thing... if he doesn't come back, we might not have time to do what we wanted to with Lein, because the man will die. >.> Kalle, Maura and Asha may need to work together on this one to get him out of there... Asha's sort of the closest to the prince at the moment, so she and Kalle would probably play major rolls in freeing him? Oh boy. This is not so good.
