I left my path and way,
to seek a new place that is fair.
I went into the place unknown
the city where love is set,
But I didn’t find any there.
Met a few woman,
They were all the same.
If I only I had found one
Who I could give my name.
I was all alone on a desert highway,
My search for a girl’s arms had failed.
But I saw yet another standing
on the roadside.
With her thumb stuck out beckoning.
She hopped in my car,
Telling me to take her to hope city.
We drove and fell in love,
Only after a few months
Did she wind me up in jail.
Love she was holding in her hand,
and I chose to take the blame.
I was inside and she was gone,
the cuffs seeking her wrists.
The bars slid by,
And I was out on the road again.
The desert heat killing me,
But I was free.
And free indeed from that woman
Who wound me up in no good.
I found my old path.
To seek the place I had left.
I found the place I knew,
the place where love was set.
And I found God’s arms and my rest.
