Hello. My name is Savannah but everybody usually finds their own nickname for me, so you can call me whatever is easiest for you to type! This is my first time here, I'm hoping I can settle in soon. Any tips on what makes a good start for newbies? Thankyou!

As for making a good start, there are loads of ways to do so. A great way to get to know people is by logging into YWS chat. You can chat freely with everyone there, and it's an awesome way of making friends. The chat room is on the homepage, so it's easy enough to find. You should check that out.

Searching around the forums and reviewing are another few great places to start. People just love it when you review their work. In fact, what kind of reading and writing are you into?

Thank you! Hehe, I think I could fit in with being a little strange, as far as I know it's one of my talents. I'm planning on writing fantasy mainly, as I have one big story in my head that will take a lot of writing. However, for now I'm just going to write as much as I can in as many different genres as I can, just to improve and see what I can do. I love reading anything, though I'm happiest with fiction - from fantasy to horror.

Thank you for your tips, I'm going to get involved right away. It's lovely to meet you too!

I really like Fantasy too, although I'm far better at reading it than writing it, haha. It's great to hear that you're planning on trying to write all kinds of different genres. It would probably be a good idea for me to try that out actually!

A few tips I would have for a newbie like yourself... (I was one just at the start of this year)

1. Review, review, review! This is the best way to get yourself out on the site, and you get points too YWS employes a give and get system, so the more you review, the more you can post.
2. Post something! And don't be hurt if you get some criticism. I know I was. If you get criticism, use it to build up work, don't let it break you down.
3. If you have a question- ask! Most everyone's happy to answer. I would suggest the "Question and Answer forum" for any queries, for the fastest, clearest answers.

Otherwise, welcome, and enjoy your time here!

I'm Heather, a pleasure to meet you and welcome to the site! I'm sure you'll settle in no time, everyone here is really friendly and we all look out for each other so we're like a very big, very creative family ^^

A great place to start is in the Lit. forums where you can read other people's works and when you feel comfortable, post your own. Or we have this group called, 'The Buddy System' where you can choose an older member to show you around the site and answer any questions you might have. Your mentor will also review some of your work when you feel up to posting something on our forums, which is always nice. Here, I'll give you the link in case you're interested.

I'm also here to help though so just send me a pm if you find anything you don't understand. Also, if you like role-playing, we have a section of the site called 'storybooks'. You'll find the link at the top and there you can write with others, each taking it in turns to post part of a story. It's really good fun!

Also, fantasy is love. I'm all over The Game of Thrones series at the moment and it's my all time favourite genre! What's your favourite book/ author?

We have it once a month, so prepare! I can't wait to read one of your pieces! Or see them, depends if you're a writer or artist or photographer.

Tips for newbies? Review constantly to get points so you'll be able to post stories or anything you want to post. Post stuff so we could see your potential and help you be better if you need help. Talk to a lot of people here, then you'll be happy to have people who will support you in the long run
