Abstract artwork

At the request of a friend/stalker, I'm uploading some of my non-photographic art. I don't have easy access to a scanner nowadays, so I had to find stuff I could take pics of... Aside from some re-sizing and file compression, I haven't edited either of these.



This one is done with oil pastels (fancy Crayons, to some people). Apologies for the blurriness, but the picture was pretty much like that to begin with...
Also, in response to one of the critiques (thank you all!), I did mean for the pear to be slightly off-kilter and lopsided. I also realized that, in the heat of the moment, I drew the shadow going in the completely wrong direction. But c'est abstraite...

When I saw the title of your post "Abstract Art", I was so excited to check it out. My first impression was that your paintings are really great. I can't pick a favourite, I like both in fact. I don't practice abstract art much so my review might not be perfect.

1st drawing: A very interesting piece. What I like about it is the mixture of yellow, orange and red colors (you know; the fire colors) in the background. I know that abstract art is more like using your own imagination and being independent from any visual references. However, I am quite bothered by the shape of the pear, the proportions are not quite right and it is tilting too much to the right side. Were you using a reference or drawing it from your own imagination?

2nd drawing: I love that mysterious looking eye. You drew it very well and I also like those messy thick lines around it. I suggest adding more effects to the background.

First off I'd like to say that these are great drawings. Your strokes are great and the colors are incoorporated well. The blend together and work great together.

First drawing: This is a very colorful picture. I like that you made the pear a different color than it usually is. The background works because you made the pear blue. I like how the background looks like a sunset. It's very pretty.

Second drawing: This is my favorite of the two. I like the grey and black surrounding the eye. And the green eye really stands out from the background.

Great job with this! Keep drawing!

Okay. The first one was neat, but I thought the quality could have been a bit better. Its a pear, a blue pear, but its still a pear and still deserves the utmost attention regardless of if its abstract or not. I really liked the background, though I think the top and bottom could have blended a bit towards the center, they both could have been a lighter tone to give us the effect that I think you were going for.

As for the bottom one, I LOVE IT. Its beautiful, and simple, and just, wow. Really a job well done =]

Neat! The pair looks looks like it's about to be blown away. I like that. Nice work with oil paints. You used all the bright colors. I would suggest doing just a little bit more shading in the pair. And the shadow should start from underneath it. So it might look better if the shadow is expanded a little more towards the left. But on the whole it's amazing!

The eye seems to belong to a black cat in my opinion. I love the paint-doodle. It could look great on the cover of a book or something. Keep it up!
