Hello everyone!!!!!

The name's TheGatherer and I'm not the first, nor the second, not even the third, but the most recent member of the YWS!

Spoiler
Well...

About me: I can say I'm the kind of writer who writes with a pencil in his notebook. Pretty amazing, isn't it?! Apart from that I'm a very boring person: Sure you don't want to meet me in person, do you? Anyway I try to make people laugh, but they tend to despise me, still not sure why...

I have a wide range of tastes, specially in music, though I don't know what the majority knows (it's because I'm not a fan of news and I don't follow what people usually like). Strangely enough, people keep saying I would be pretty good in a quiz show. The last one, which is the first I've ever entered, I missed all the questions.

You see, lately I've been suffering of what people call shame. I never had it before... Maybe it's because of all the pressure I've been held last year. I just can't stand listening people saying I'm good but can do much better. What's wrong with them anyhow?!

About three years ago I started writing poetry. At some point I wrote compulsively, sometimes three poems a day, but now I rarely write one. I guess I'm trying to concentrate my inner need of expression, or maybe the source is drying...

So I find it easier to write poems than to write stories. I have tons of plans for them but never managed to continue them. The problem is neither in starting nor in ending them, but in developing them. By the time I finish the first pages I loose the will to write them, and so the spontaneity of the story itself. This is why I can only write short stories.

About what I read: as a kid I loved fantasy because I believed it developed imagination, and I loved to imagine things. After I fell in love for the first time I started liking romance too, but it still bothers me being something everyone likes. For the same reason, I stopped liking vampire stories. I've recently discovered that I love to read drama, as it reminds me of the time I put on my school plays.

  • Do you want me to review the most recent work of yours? :superman:
  • Did you find anything wrong with my introduction?
  • Do you need help or, instead, do you want to help me? :?
  • Is there anything you want to ask me?
  • Or do you just want to say "hello" :D (or "welcome", since you're in the Welcome Mat)?

Then please reply this post. It's as simple as that!

I choose the fifth one.

Hello Gatherer!

Shame? I've never heard of that before. You see, as a writer, I don't believe in shame nor modesty. It is my writer way of life. I sense a very good reviewing future for you, you just seem like that type of person. I wish you luck and suggest you check out the chat rooms and browse through the forums a bit. You'll like it here, I'm sure.

Hello!

Welcome to YWS! You seem to have already grasped the importance of reviewing, lol. :) PM or Wall me if you ever need a critique or if you have any questions!

Eeek, poetry. I'm not very good at that. I see everything as a possible story, not a poem, which is sometimes a pity, but I do love prose, so not really, lol. XD

See you around!

Hey TheGatherer! Welcome to YWS! I hope you enjoy yourself here and that you lose that sense of shame that's been growing up on you and become confident through your writing.

About me: I can say I'm the kind of writer who writes with a pencil in his notebook. Pretty amazing, isn't it?!

Hahaha! I'm exactly the same and then, once done, I type my work on the computer for editing and stuff.

At some point I wrote compulsively, sometimes three poems a day, but now I rarely write one

I think it's because you may be under pressure or you may be trying too hard. Relax and let your brain wander. Perhaps as you go around this site, that old habitude will return. Who knows? I hope so...

I have tons of plans for them but never managed to continue them.

Tell me about it. :? You have here an expert on the subject. I too always fail to continue a novel that I've already started (but I'm changing, I won't to get rid of that bad habit...).

So yeah, we have a lot in common- especially for things you like to read and love for poetry (though I also love prose and drama). I have a thing against 'popular' things...apart from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. I like drama because I've also been in a few school plays and because I study it at school.

Basically.....welcome to this big family of writers and other creative thinkers. I hope I'll see you and your work around!

I'm glad you all have something to add to my introduction.

I'm only ashamed when I find myself reading loud my poems. About modesty, I can't say I'm modest because Anna Frank herself testified the paradoxical act of proclaming their own modesty. That said, I have big dreams too unlikely to come true.

I'm still hooked to that idea of "very good reviewing future" for me... What do you mean by saying I "just seem like that type of person"? I'm curious...

I see everything the way you see it, in what one of my favourite writers call the "what if"s. You see, poems are different. You just know it's coming moments before. You can't predict them, you can't plan them. They just appear and the best you can do is make them prettier before they vanish the same way they came. With stories it's different, you keep chewing them non-stop. It doesn't work for me: after the whole planning of the story I give up as I find things taking a turn out of my control and main points getting delayed.

I'm so happy to share with you this pencil thing. I find pens so impractical!
We need to solve this novel issue. It's just not fair!
I love Harry Potter. Lord of the Rings is also good, though I've only read Harry Potter.

Thanks for all your support!

PS Since I'm here, why don't come out and say I :smt055 Snoink's pig stars, I just adore them...

Heya!

Just to let you know, those aren't pink stars. Those are pigs. and that is scratched out because I really should pay more attention! :P Snoink, being the insane reviewing machine she is, maxed out the star system. Twice. So in return her stars are permanently pigs.

Your approach to short stories is interesting. We have many a writer on here who just doesn't plan their stories (be it novels or short stories) and write without knowing what happens. You might want to consider throwing planning off the window, as if I recall they encounter similar problems when they plan as well.

And I think the fact you're asking if anybody wants a review in their welcome post has something to do with thinking you're the reviewing type. ;)

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions! The light green name means I'm a junior moderator here on YWS (dark green being the full-fledged mods, if you're wondering who we're junior too.) and we're here to help everybody out!

Welcome to YWS, Gatherer! ;D

Do you want me to review the most recent work of yours?

Well, I don't really have anything recent up! Knock yourself out, but none of it's really needed. There are plenty of other members who've posted you can check out though. If you hover over Discover Works at the top, you'll find three options for "Recent Additions," which are recently posted works. Check them out! :D

Did you find anything wrong with my introduction?

PSH NO. It was awesome. I wish mine was as good. (In fact, I didn't even remember to post in the Welcome Mat right away. You automatically get cool points just for that.)

Do you need help or, instead, do you want to help me?

At that moment, you should just participate in the community! We're here to help each other, so yes to both ends. :D You can give general writing tips, help others with their confusion, or just simply read/review. I don't really write poetry, but I enjoy reading it. That said, I'm not going to be entirely helpful. xD But I still look forward to seeing your work, if you post!

Is there anything you want to ask me?

Teehee, my favorite question ever. Have you ever tried co-writing? YWS has a neat feature called Storybooks, which is story-writing but with a handful of other members. It might be an easier/preferable way to write stories. Well, actually. They're just really fun. And right now, there are some really cool storybooks open for people to join still. Feel free to check that out!

Or do you just want to say "hello" (or "welcome", since you're in the Welcome Mat)?

HELLO. Also, you're (an old time) fantasy lover. Excellent. Fantasy's my favorite genre for the exact same reason! But I also enjoy others. Recently, I've been into the historical novels. Which is weird 'cause that's, like, the opposite of fantasy... anyhoot.

Also, I think Reise meant that you seem to know a lot about writing! I agree that you probably know your stuff, so when you review others' works here, you'll be extremely helpful. Have fun! :D

I'll see you around, Gatherer!

Hello there, Gatherer. I'm also a bit of a fantasy nut, though I'll read sci-fi and realistic fiction. Even non-fiction.

I'm a Christian, just to let you know. That only means I'm quite human and not given to holding grudges.

Hello Gatherer, so nice to see you here on YWS. :smt006
I'd love read your poetry; if you've posted anything here already, I will take a sneak-peak at them. (although I am not a great reviewer when it comes to poetry).
