Prompt: Arb VII, a peaceful world in the Sphinx Constellation, has come under attack by the Utopians. The Utopians created a perfect society, which can only be maintained by continuously invading and pillaging the surrounding worlds. In the planetary bombardment, the Utopians knocked out many of the major military units and defenses on Arb VII. A small resistance force is active, but it can not hope to stop the Utopians unsupported.

Which is where we come in.

YWS has deployed the SPEW Gryphon to liberate the planet. The SPEW Gryphon is an assault carrier and carries numerous fighters and YWS Forces. It will be using these forces to help clear out Utopian ground forces. While the Gryphon can provide fire support from space, it won't always be available and won't be used in areas with civilian populations.

Rules:

  1. Creative policy: If something isn't explicitly defined (ex. whether Arb is an ice planet or tropical) then you can make something up. We can always edit it later if it has already been defined.
  2. Don't play another YWS member.
  3. Regarding deaths: All YWS members are equipped with an emergency transporter which activates just before a member is about to die. At that point, the member is transported back onto the SPEW Gryphon. It consumes quite a bit of energy to use; so you can't use it very often.
  4. Please don't take control of another writers character without their permission.
  5. Please observe the normal rules of spelling and grammar.

Short Name: Grif

Combat Specialty: Destroying Everything

Weapons: The SPEW Gryphon has an extensive arsenal and Grif is an expert with all of them. He favors a Gauss Rifle, because of the way cars go cartwheeling through the air when he shoots them.

Equipment: He wears battle armor that is suspiciously similar to the armor that Master Chief wears.

Skills: Did I mention destroying everything?

Background: Grif has been with YWS for quite a long time and he's been blowing stuff up for years. Nearly every vehicle he gets in ends up getting destroyed in some spectacular fashion. The only reason the SPEW Gryphon has survived so long is because it is equipped with superior SPEW technology. Even so, this ship is the third one to bear the name SPEW Gryphon, the first two were destroyed.

Grif is a member of SPEW, a secret society of writers on YWS that protects the most powerful device on YWS: A McGuffin device. Using this device, members of SPEW are able to build anything that can be imagined. Like Master Chief's battle armor or an assault carrier. The device is, by definition, unrestrained. It takes a disciplined mind to use the McGuffin device, because if you randomly think about marshmallows while you're trying to build a gauss rifle, you'll end up building a gun that shoots paint-can sized marshmallows. You don't want to know what happens if you should inadvertently wonder about black holes.

(Normally I worry about characters being overpowered and what not. This time though, I just want to write scenes where things explode. Which is to say, every scene will have something blowing up.)

Short Name: Stella

Affiliation: YWS.

Occupation: Dressmaker/SPEW Commando.

Combat Specialty: She tries to avoid combat, being better at the camouflage side of things. When pushed though, she carries a dainty pearl-handled laser, and is surprisingly skilled at hand to hand combat (warning: nails, teeth and hair-pulling ability will be used).

Weapons: All the girly ones. Aforementioned pearl-handled laser gun, razor-edged fans and Ribbons of Death.

Equipment: Sewing scissors, needle, crochet hooks of various sizes, thimble and small thread pack containing most shades. And a compact mirror, duh.

Skills: Can sew a dress and/or YWS spacesuit at a moment's notice. Comes in handy when other members of crew need camouflage suits. Adept at fixing stuff and for some reason always gets called in when the mechanics are out (but she doesn't like that so much, oil is so difficult to clean). Also good at colour-coordinating.

Background: Stella grew up on a small potato farm on a rock in the middle of the ocean, until she was picked up by Madam Carp to work in her dress emporium. While Madam Carp was a slave-driver, she also taught Stella many of the skills she has today. When she was fourteen, Stella met a beautiful, dark-green clad princess by the name of JabberHut who encouraged her to join the Young Writers Society, believing the place needed a dash more femininity. How right she was.

Short Name: Scar.

Affiliation: YWS.

Occupation: Pilot.

Combat Specialty: Stealth and Infiltration.

Weapons: A laser gun and a whip.

Equipment: Light-weight armor and her fighter.

Skills: Stealth and Infiltration. She's also a pretty decent pilot.

Background: Scar claims to hail from a far away galaxy called Curuwen, which few have heard of nor really seen. She's only been with YWS for a short while, but she's fitting in well. As a pilot, she spends a lot of time on scouting missions, in which she comes in very handy, being skilled at S&I. Scar spends most of her time in her fighter's cockpit or in her rooms.

She does not know what SPEW is/stands for, but is willing to fight for it anyway.

Combat Specialty: Tinkering with machines to make them go boom, melee. Not one for combat.

Weapons: Miniature Super Sledge

Equipment: Miniature Super Sledge, night-vision goggles, and a yellow rubber wristband.

Skills: Good with technology. Very perceptive and quick to the punch. Good with animals (except horses. Durn creatures.)

Background: Grew up in a small town in the middle of a forested valley. Always one to prove himself, he left the valley to go cause gleeful mayhem across his planet using his wit and technological smarts. Inadvertently found his way onto the SPEW Gryphon while they were on some kind of mission on his planet, and there he stayed.

Occupation: Serving Girl at a local pub where Arbian leaders are prone to gathering.

Combat Specialty: Batting away drunken customers/Eavesdropping like no other.

Weapons: None

Equipment: Only a ticket book and an endless supply of pencils.

Skills: She can carry up to seven plates at a time.

Background: Lily grew up in the Arbian capital to a family of moderate wealth and status. But being a social create unlike most of the rest of her family, she itched to stretch her legs in the big city that she had hardly been allowed to know all of her life. She got a job waitressing at a local pub, one known for playing host to many Arbian leaders. And in this time of warfare they seem to be gathering there more and more. And Lily has been overhearing more than she’d like to, news that makes her heart tremble.

Lily once over heard that SPEW stands for Snoink's Perfectly Evil Warriors. But you can't always believe everything you hear.

Short Name: Shadow

Affiliation: YWS

Occupation: Gunship fighter pilot .

Combat Specialty: You'll never meet a sharper shooter! Shadow is one of the best combat pilots you could wish to have covering your backside. She also enjoys anything to do with fire and explosions (she's a closet pyromaniac :D)

Weapons: Her gunship, two small hand guns, a bottle of perfume and a a yo-yo.

Equipment: Her special space/atmospheric purple crayon colored pilot suite (made by Stella :D, ) A white helmet with bumble bee decals, Her special military grade pigtail elastic bands, and a pack of gum to help keep her sensitive ears from popping when changing altitudes.

It has been nicknamed "The Reaper" by both sides. She is also an avid knitter and has been known to put the Reaper on auto pilot and knit while flying- for which she has been reprimanded. She also is a talented cake baker.

Background: Shadow grew up on an apple orchard with her parents and two younger brothers. her father was a computer engineer and helped design some of the Gryph's computer defense components.When the war broke into a full fledged interstellar crisis Shadow joined up and trained to be a fighter pilot and has been one ever since.

Combat Specialty: Guerilla Warfare and HALO jumps from low orbital spacecrafts

Equipment: IV-181 "Wings" (Boosters fixated on the back of Vit's suit), IV-191 Mercury Boots (Boosters on the boots) and the TY-99 Orbital Drop Suit, Scouting equipment

Skills: Low-orbital HALO Jump, Stealth during scouting and good at Non-lethal Combat

Background: Born in Arb VII, Vit grew in the wilderness when his family were executed by the Utopians, enduring pain and learning survival by hunting down animals. Before the last Arbian military facility was overrun, Vit was able to sneak inside to find an orbital drop shuttle with it's own AI and an experimental drop suit. He uses this to procure enemy rations, food and water, anything that would give him advantage over the enemy. He uses hit-and-run tactics to attacking small groups of enemies. He prefers non-lethal (mostly sleeping darts) force during stealth missions since he doesn't want any evidence that he was there, although he will use lethal force when guns are already blazing. He is a current member of the small Arbian Resistance, the key figure leading the Arbian Resistance's special force.

Short Name: Cam

Occupation: Biochemical Scientest/ Experiment

Combat Specialty; Genetically enhanced reflexes, strength and agility, coupled with minor control over kinetic, thermal and elctrical energy.

Weapons: His body has been redesigned to maximize the best qualities of human ancestors,as well as including some supernatural abilities (minor control over kinetic, thermal and elctrical energy) making himself a weapon.

Equipment: An array of chemcials he can input into himself to activate his powers, carried around in a handy Airlock Cryogenic backpack. Worn over normal clothes, as armor only hampers his abilities.

Skills: Chemically instigated "powers" and a scientest's ingenituty.

Background: A fast-rising star among YWS's team of scientests, Cam was well- reknowned for his breakthroughs in DNA Modificaion and Restoration. He first explored the ideas of re-awakening the survival abilities of Homo-sapien ancestors, and applying them to the current species. He only tested himself, not wanting to endanger other people. His first tests were a success, and he was ordered to share the chemicals. He refused, protesting that the work was still incomplete, and that side effects may still be possible. He has now spent his time delving into the idea of energy manipulation, and has acheived some success. Impaitent, with a need for warriors to combat the massive Utopian fleet, Cam was dispatched to serve the SPEW Gryphon as a warrior. He sees it as an oppurtunity to see if his skills can be applied to battle.

"All hands to Battle Stations. This is not a drill. First wave to drop pods, second wave to drop ships," Adelaide's calm voice said. Grif walked calmly to the drop pod section of the ship. In other parts of the ship, fighters were being warmed up and writers from the First YWS Expeditionary Force were preparing to engage the Utopians on the planet below. He entered his pod and found Adelaide, the AI, waiting for him.

"Ten Utopian ships are over the planet, including a Carrier."

"Don't worry about the Carrier. Snoink will take care of it. How about the escorts?"

"Nothing I can't handle."

"Let me know if that changes. What time is it?"

"4:30."

"Good, Snoink should come in right about..."

UCS Paradise

Aboard the Utopian Battle Carrier Paradise, the Utopian Admiral grinned. The SPEW Gryphon had been a thorn in the side of the Utopians since those meddling writers had started meddling. Now he had the chance to destroy that hated ship and thus win glory and honor for Utopia.

"Shields up! Man all stations, prepare for victory!" the Admiral ordered. There was nothing that could stop them now.

Suddenly, from behind him, a noise came. It faded in and out, it almost sounded like... squealing. He turned around, to see a large Pink Box had appeared behind him. It had writing on it:

MODERATOR (YWS Only) BOX

The Admiral was astonished and could say nothing as the door opened. He finally decided to scream, just as a flood of pigs came out of the door and rushed the bridge. The box seemed too small for the quantity of pigs it contained. It was almost as if it was... bigger on the inside. Pigs trampled over the Admiral, and within minutes, the entire bridge crew was knocked out. The pigs were trained especially for that purpose. With the crew incapacitated, the pigs then took their place on the control panels.

"The ship is ours Snoink!" a pig oinked.

"Excellent my pink and cuddly minions. Seal off the bridge and open fire on the Utopian ships!"

Grif watched as a beam of light shot from the Utopian ship into one of it's escorts. The beam of charged particles lanced through the ship and the escort exploded.

"Adelaide, begin opening fire on the Utopians, escorts only. Snoink has authority to countermand. Where are we landing?"

"It's a place called Devil's Hook. There is a large Utopian Firebase on an island the shape of a hook. Take that out and the Utopians will be unable to maintain their hold on the Archipelago region of the planet."

"Right then, begin launching the pods."

Short Name: Skully

Occupation: Ex-engineer, now a Sparrow Class Pilot
Combat Specialty: Short Range firefights and Melee. Dog fighting at a push.
Weapons: A pair of Boltok Revolvers (Cos if you can't do it in 12 shots you might as well stab them), a katana, a wristmounted forearm length flick knife and various other pointy toys. Oh and his unbreakable skull.
Equipment: Body armour, Mk.II Combat Boots (He prefers the feel of the old ones), standard issue combat uniform, fusion cutter and a modified comms peice which plays the general lee.
Skills: Being an ex-engineer he can repair most YWS vehicles. He is also very good at killing quietly.
Background: During his career as a engineer he had an accident with a laser cutter and as a result not only will his hair never grow back, his skull is almost unbreakable. After a few years as a engineer he finally reached promotion to a basic Sparrow Pilot. After an unfortunate beginning to his first mission (He arrived late to the SPEW Griffon and accidentally blocked up the comms with music, delaying an entire military assault), he has managed to regain some dignity and even a little respect for his continuing penache with a sword.
I have looked into the eye of the storm and stared it down. I am an adrenaline junky and i know no fear.

Combat Specialty: Terrorizing enemies
Weapons: A big double barrel-Laser and a handsome (huge) collection of knives
Equipment: All kind of cooking devices, light armor, Fire-starting equipment
Skills: can make a mean waffle, scare things off, and uses his knife amazingly.
Background: Blue is known for many things, good cooking is not one of them- He cannot even make an omelete, and touching any kind of meat cooked by him is a bad idea, as it usually belongs either to something who had a collar, said meow, talked- or just plain colorful- green, blue, black and purple are for him completely normal colors for meat.
In fact the only thing good to eat is on tuesday- which is waffle day, the only eatable- and even tasty- thing he makes, Just don't try the syrup!
It has been told that eating most of the mess' food could lead to effects ranging between vomiting all day long- to painful horrible death.
He is very friendly and very alcholic, when an officer remarked about his drinking problem- and demanded he would stop, there was no waffle tuesday. Ever since, He drinks whenever wherever however he feels like.
His history is thankfuly unknown.

Grif's pod shuddered as it was ejected from the underside of the SPEW Gryphon. Around him, he could see other pods that had been released and above him fighters were streaming out of the Gryphon. The HUD came to life and began naming the pods next to him. There was Stella, Blue, Grant, and Cam. Now some fighters passed them, the HUD identified them as Skully, Shadow, and Scar. They were known as the triple S. Scar would scout the area out, Skully would take out the air forces, and Shadow would take on the ground forces.

Fighters had launched from the Utopian Carrier, but they were mostly focusing on the weaponry of their own ship, which dismantled yet another escort in front of Grif's eyes.

"Grif, I've established communications with Arbian resistance forces. Apparently they have an operative inside the Devil's Hook, call sign: "Vit." He's going to knock out the anti-air guns so you have a clear ride in."

"Excellent work Adelaide." At that moment, he began receiving data from Scar. Their target was a drop fort, the type the Utopians used on practically every planet they had invaded. Easy to deploy and built in mass quantities, they were in the shape of a five point star. Inside were hovertanks, turrets, and anything else the Utopians would need to wage war in a fifty mile radius.

An airstrip was nearby, but it exploded in flames as the triple S began their work. Anti-aircraft fire started, then ceased. Grif's pod now entered the action. It targeted the four biggest threats it found and fired it's missiles at them. The missiles found a pair of hovertanks and two turrets. They exploded and ten seconds later, Grif's pod landed in the middle of the Utopian base. The door to the pod blasted open and Grif came out, ready for anything.
