My photography

So these are me three photos. (1) The Natural World (2) Love (3) Peace.
I used a Canon PowerShot SD 12000 IS. I'm not sure what it means really, but it's a pretty good camera I did a little bit of editing, but nothing that really changed the pictures. I just changed some of the colours (like changing my pictures to sepia and black and white.)

Wow! These photographs are absolutely beautiful! I really love the first one, it definitely does portray the beauty and color of a natural world. (Where on earth did you find a beautiful flower like that one)?! The second is really nice as well. Hmmm...I'm just wondering what the cone thing is in the middle. Hahaha. Is it a sick dog with one of those satellite collars? The only thing about it is that I don't really picture "love" when I see it. (Sorry ) Perhaps if the people were smiling more then maybe I would picture "love". The third photo is, of course, also really great. When I see it, I automatically thought of peace. But that's the thing,... though "hand holding" is a powerful message and symbol, it's very cliched. Otherwise, they're all wonderful and I wish you good luck with the contest!

Hey Gryffindor!

So, I've never taken a class in photography nor really owned a camera...so excuse this if it sounds extremely ignorant! I'm just going to give you my overall "feelings"!
Well, I think the first thing you should probably do, is put up a little snip bit of information for what the contest is about, since some people might not know.

I think the first one is kinda cool, how the flower gets darker near the middle. Is that supposed to mean something about humanity? How the deeper you go, and more layers you pull off, you get a raw, honest self conscious nature that you can't easily share with society and the world in general? That's what I thought.

For the second picture, I sort of wish I could see what it is inside that scoop looking thing. I can't really identify it, which bugs me. Especially since the eyes of the two kids look down on it. But maybe that's the point? It's something private, a bond between them that outsiders can only see but not know about...

For the third picture, I think the fact that there is no color (everything is grey) indicates that it doesn't matter what color the hands are. So, in a sense, look at a person for who he/she is, not based on their race or ethnicity. Again you have them holding hands, which means that they are in a truce or embrace of sorts...

Yeah, sorry if this didn't help, just trying to return the favor! Keep up with the photography, you say a lot through these three simple pictures.

I like your work. It's very simple and yet meaningful. The second picture is my favorite, showing the soft feelings of the children to the animal, as well as the ties of friendship between them.

The first picture is beautiful, but slightly generic. Perhaps you could play with camera angles some? Still, it's a beautiful choice.

No bad comments on #2, I loved Love

As for the third, I love the simple beauty of the child hands, with the braid cord. It's very sweet. Maybe, if you edited, you could give it a slightly more rosy glow? I'm not sure if it's supposed to come across as friendship or romance, but the single black/white color makes it a bit....two dimensional.

Overall, not bad photography. Your framing, lighting, and all that technical stuff is proficient overall, which is a good start. However, the hard part is utilizing it.

The first picture of the Dahlia (which is one of my favorite flowers) seems off. If you had it on a dark filter, take it off. If not, pump up the colors a bit. If you were going for something by calling a rather grey and bland photo "The Natural World", then by all means, make it greyer and blander. If not, make those colors bright and make them pop. Also, the actual flower seems to be out of focus, with the leaves being extra sharp. It may be my eyes or my computer, so this one is up to you (and other critiques) to notice. But once again, if you're going for something there, keep it. If not, try to fix it so the beautiful flower is what draws the eye, not the leaves and mulch.

The second picture is by far my favorite. The bittersweet happiness the 2 are softly expressing is amazing, especially considering that they're either friends or family of you. everything about this photo is perfect; lighting, framing, depth. The sepia tint (that usually looks horrible) fits this picture perfectly, giving it a warm, loving glow. Obviously, this was out of your control, and I don't fault you at all, but the dog kind of kills the picture. It looks trapped, like the 2 people there are holding it against it's will. But if you ignore that minor aspect, it's a great picture.

The third picture feels...off. I honestly can't tell you what it is. Maybe it's the black and white photography. Maybe it's the black and white skin. Maybe it's the feeling that these 2 are holding onto each other for dear life, but not really. Maybe it's the forearm of the black person, and only the wrist of the white. I can't say. But something about this picture makes me not want to like it.

You aren't bad. The second picture tells me you can be good. But that's only a third of what you've shown me. I think your main problem is the framing. You need to think about every detail of the picture. The background, the foreground, what's being shown on the sides, the top, the bottom. Yes, the center is important, but once you look at the picture for longer than a second or 2, you start to look at everything else that makes up the frame. And once you look at that, you're golden.
