So they told me it would be a good idea to post here since I'm a noob and all.

A little about me: I've been writing since I was nine years old and I'm 18 now and headed off to college where I will study Neuroscience. I would love more than anything to be a writer but the only thing that terrifies me more than having somebody critique my work is the idea of being a professional writer because I have been told for the better half of my life that writing will not bring in a steady income.

I'm hoping this is the first step towards getting over my fears and possibly making writing more than just a hobby.

Anyway.. eee! Neurosccience is way awesome! I'd love to have a neuro elective next year (I've picked Biotech). As to income and stuff, I may not be the best judge, but all I'd say is never give up this passion, yes?

Biotech is definitely a cool field and yeah, I'd never give up writing, even if it only ever remained a hobby.

No, I'm not actually from Burma. Haha. The SN comes from the quotations on my signature. I don't know if you've even seen Monty Python's Flying Circus, but the quotes have been taken from the "Penguin on the Television Set" sketch.
