What's your favourite word?

Well, words. I automatically suppose it's words in plural, because there are different kind of favourites: words you say a lot in everyday conversation, words you find yourself using a lot in writing, and words you just love because they are so SWELL.

I have lots, but here are a few:

lukewarm - This is probably THE favourite word of mine ever. I don't use it that much, but whenever I see it in writing, it makes my heart happy.

brethren - A close second. Did I mention I absolutely love irregularity of language?

definitely - I use it a lot in normal conversation (when I talk in English) or when I review, for example. I don't even know why. I guess it just fits well in my mouth/fingers.

eldest - Firstly, I love saying it, and secondly, I think it's so cool how it's eldest and not oldest. Even though you can also say oldest and they're not exactly the same thing anyway. But whenever I can, I say eldest. Eldest.

citizen - Again, just a cool word for no apparent reason.

lagom - This is a Swedish word that doesn't have a direct translation. It means something like "just enough".

eloisa - This is Finnish for "lively". I just think it's a really pretty word.


Oh, I could go on and on. There are so many lovely words out there!

Yes. That is genuinely a word. It's the name of a place in Wales. Now you understand why the words and phrasing I use in my writing are so screwed up.

I also like the word splendid. That's a cool word.

I have favourite words that change often! Right now:
Petrichor: The smell outside after it rains.

Loquacious was my favorite word for forever.

Ethereal's pretty cool too.

But if you're talking about words I actually use a lot...

Okay, So, Anyway, But, Then, etc. Seriously, I have a problem with transitional phrases. Oh, and Seriously. And Oh... You get my point.

Smurf. It sounds really cheesy and small and- I'm not sure. Smurf. Smurf. Smurf.


Hw can you not like that word?

Platitudinous which means: dull and tiresome but with pretensions of significance or originality.
I think the reason I like the word so much is that it kind of sums up me in one need word that sounds a bit like platypus.

Faith- the definition of infinity
Garden- don't know why, but it sounds so beautiful

Soliloquy! I really have no reason except I love the -quy ending. It's so....oooooh.

I also like the word Irish word Sidhe. Try pronouncing that one

Totalitarian. It's just something about all the t's that makes it so much fun to say.

In conversation I use the word indeed quite a bit. I am also fond of the word vapid, though I don't use it with such frequency. However, it is useful and fun sounding. I also enjoy the word spiffy. Mostly because it sounds funny and sometimes people react in amusing ways when you use it. Oh and I like the word amusing as well. It amuses me.

Among those that have not been mentioned: Kumquat.

Shenanigans. Because, well, shenanigans!

Sesquipedality: it means the practice of using long words. That and its counterpart, sesquipedalian, someone who uses long words. Say them out loud and tell me it doesn't roll off your tongue beautifully.

I also like the word psychosomatic, which means something happening inside your head, basically. Oh, and athazagoraphobia, which is the fear of being ignored, forgotten, or forgetting. There are about a billion other words I love, but these are my top four.

Kafkaesque, for obvious reasons.

I also like agathocacological (containing both good and evil), xanthochroid (blond, blue-eyed, and fair-skinned), lo (look! see!) and pusillanimous (timid or scared).

Confabulation: When gaps in your memory are replaced by events which never happened, but which you believe to be true. Brilliant word, that.

Ephemeral: A fleeting, transitory thing. Despite the actual definition, I always think of it as a word to replace ethereal.

Nostalgia: wistful longing or desire for something past. I fell in love with this word after finding it in a Harvest Moon game, as it pretty much describes about four years of my life (sad, I know). Nevertheless, I think I'll write a book about that one emotion one of these days.
