Do you have a pre-writing ritual?

Coffee and or tea.

Lots and lots and lots of it.

That and I move to the family room downstairs. Its quiet, its dim, and the lighting is a more soft incandescence, which puts me right into the writing mood. With a pleasant soundtrack playing in the background, not even writers block could stop me ;D.

Tea always comes first, though.

After getting an idea, I write out the synopsis first on a piece of white plain paper. I fold it in half, and stash it away for a week or so (I don't know why I do that). I find it comforting to write my stories on a dark blue coloured page. It sets a mood/ it shows my brain that I'm in another world, for that particular story.

Fingerless gloves only make me think of Ash. o_o

I wouldn't say I have any rituals. Probably get a bottle of water next to me or something, but other than that, not really.

This is where I feel a little bit sad because I don't really have a set ritual.

I do have a special playlist that I listen to while I write and I like to make sure I have an ice-cold drink to hand, but that's about all I guess.

I usually have to leave my computer for a few minutes. During this time I retrieve my fuzzy hand socks and a blanket. Then I set up my writing spot (usually the comfy chair in the living room or the couch in the basement). I turn the monitor brightness on my computer way down and then play some music quietly. The music depends on what I'm writing. Most recently it's been Pink Floyd's Welcome To The Machine.

I have a Word document on my desktop titled "Garbage."

I write in here for the first five minutes of every writing session. It clears out all the stale ideas that have been sitting in my head a little too long, and keeps me from getting too full of myself when I go back to whatever I'm actually working on.

I spend a good amount of time finding the right song for the mood of the scene, put it on repeat, reread what I have written, make quick corrections, and then write for as long as I can, changing the song to something different when necessary.

Fruity beverages are encouraged, though not required. This often occurs between the hours of 10:30 PM and 12:00 AM.
