Hello again! Back so soon, I know. But my birthday was actually yesterday and I had a wonderful time. Probably the most wonderful moments though was when I pulled out a delightful nikon portrait lens from the heap of presents. So I was testing it out and here are some of the results. Not a wonderful representation of my work but I liked how a few came out. So here they are. Comments and critiques are greatly appreciated.
Happy birthday to you! And congrats on the new lens. I love the back-lighting on the second picture. I'm a big fan of back lighting, but I haven't taken many back-lit pictures with artificial light. My favorite thing about naturally back lighting a picture is how it makes hair shine, but I don't think artificial light would have the same effect. Regardless, I like how it came out. You can see the reflection of the light in her eyes. It reminds me of a kid glued to the T.V. And since the rest of the picture is so dark, it fits. It makes me think of how technology obsessed our generation is, forever stuck inside, in the dark. Another interpretation is that the subject is a dreamer. She is looking out of the frame, which suggests she is looking for something more out of life. I don't know. I'm definitely looking into this too much, but I like your pictures. Have fun with your new lens!
1. I really love this one. I think it's really cool how you got the angle and the freckles on her cheek just barely save it from boredom but keep it subtly nice.
2. This is my favorite. It is beautiful the way that it looks like she's just captured two emotions (desperation and boredom) and perfectly melded them together. She is perfect for this picture and you captured the moment wonderfully.
3. This one is ok. It's well taken but there's so much texture in it (the background, her hair, her eyebrows, her freckles) that it makes it look a little overwhelming...
4. I really like this one. I think the only thing that could make it better is if you kept the color around the dog and left the dog black-and-white.

Well thank you very much! I am a huge fan of back lighting too but I never really get the chance to use it. I also love hearing different interpretations of a piece, it is part of what makes critiques so much fun. *also, Justagirl, I kind of agree with you on the third one. Looking it over all the little circles and blobs are wicked distracting.

They're just awesome, well done. You should be proud, you have a good eye. Photo #1: This is very cool. I've always loved the way people look down on someone like this. It seems to come off rather sad and...mysterious? Maybe not so much, but definetly sad. One nitpik i have of this photo is that maybe you could have come a little bit out, so you could see more of the eyelash. Y'know what i mean?
