For college I've had to do a project on the seven deadly sins xD
This is the start of my final piece and I was wondering what you thought so far.
It's of an obese man (representing the Western world) with three starving children (representing the poverty stricken parts of the world) inside of him to represent the sin Gluttony. I've pencil drawn the whole thing and have started off painting the man in white and milk chocolate xD and am going to paint the children in coffee, tea and spices mixed with PVA glue. :O
So what do ya think? :P

Okaaaaay so I've finished it now and here is the finished piece.
I think it came out alright, and I really do like the concept I chose, but I found out it's really hard to get detail with food XD so the three starving children I drew don't look as good as I'd hoped the would.
Sadly I couldn't redraw them because they were already surrounded by chocolate. ;O
But anyway, here it is. Hope you like it. (: I go a B, ;D

Hello there,

This is a cool concept, and well done. I have two issues: first of all, I wouldn't have known that it was an obese man until you explained it. I'm not sure what the best way would be to clarify, or maybe you don't want to clarify, but just so you know, it isn't totally easy to figure out.

Secondly, it may just be the picture, but the way you've painted the man is very uneven and the strokes are visible. It would be better if the brush strokes weren't visible--it would look neater and more realistic. I noticed that you outlined the people inside in a darker color, which again doesn't add to the realism.

Overall, I think you have a great idea and it is well-executed. You did a great job drawing the children inside, and I love your theme. I'd really like to see the finished product--please let me know when you post it!

Thanks for the review and great advice.
I've had a few people tell me that they hadn't realized that it was an obese man until I'd told them, so I'll have to figure out a way to make it more obvious, but how, I don't know yet. o_O
(: Yeah, the brush strokes are annoying me too, but I'm gonna add some more layers of chocolate. ;D
And thanks a lot :D I will do. (:

Nice, the juxtaposition of the fat person and the starving kids will be great. Are you actually going to use foods ? I'm a little confused. If you pull it off it will be great. About the previous reviewers comment on realism, I believe it is really up to you. Since this work is full of contrasts mixing rough texture with smooth will be great, I don't think there is any problem with showing brush work.
Although i do suggest you look up more pictures of children, you preliminary sketches don't look quite well formed enough, there are issues with proportion I can see.
Since your color palette is quite focused on browns and seems to be rather low key ( your described colors of coffee etc.) try placing to draw in the line and be the focus point.

Good luck, its a good idea.

Hi there! You chose a really interesting concept. The concept gave a big message. How people can become obese while others are left to starve and die later. Either way, you die from either having food, or not having food. Awesome! The colors were mainly nature colors to me, and I like it! Great job and keep it up! I wouldn't have thought of that concept myself, awesome job!

Yes Jennya, that up there is already done in chocolate. I've finished it now and have painted the children in coffee, tea and spices. :P I drew the pictures of the kids from the internet and that's the proportions there were; I think it gives it a bit of a distorted look? Hmmm. But thanks for the review it's helpful. :P x
I've finished it now, and I'll post the finished picture ASAP! xD

It makes me feel guilty and disgusting and I'm not even a fat person. Hahaha. But it really does get the point across in a new and startling way; great job! Very good idea.

Dear SheepMonoxide,

I like your painting a lot. But there are a few things that I want to tell you . . .

1: I wouldn't have known that that was an old man until I had seen what you had typed on top. You should refine it a little. Especially the face. It is quite hard to see where it really is . . . at least for me. I am not sure about the rest of the viewers.

2: The 'Countries Of Poverty' didn't come out too well. Perhaps you should change their faces and their feet oh, yeah, not to mention the arms. Also, aren't they supposed to wear clothes?

3: I think it would look better without the chocolate mixture.

I hope that this helps . . .

Regards,
Nova

Sorry for the late reply Supernova (: To answer some of your statements, just to stop confusion xD he isn't an old man, well he doesn't have an age and he also doesn't have a face, sorry about the confusion. (: It's just the torso. The children are also naked because they don't have money for clothing and it wouldn't look right if the richer, fatter man didn't have clothes on but the children in poverty did. xD
I do agree with your statement with the chocolate, but it was part of a college project and I had to use a type of food :') Lol.
Thanks for the criticism and comments.
