Okay so I am starting on a film but I need a little writing boost to get started. So I know that I want my film to be about love that is dangerous. Not just dangerous about weapons and risks but emotional danger as well, so a little of both! But I'm trying to aim towards a story that is TOTALLY new than anything out in the world already. For example, Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet was AMAZING! But I want a different ending or twist or some sort of suprise. I want when people watch this film to go home suprised with the ending but also shocked and saying to themselves that this film was totally different from anything they have ever seen. Just if anyone has any ideas on how to sort of get started on that then I would be grateful!
I think you will find our "Writing Tips" forum quite helpful, it's a great resource for the enthusiastic writer. We also have a Knowledge Base that would serve you well.
It sounds like you like the whole "Forbidden Love" story, which is what Romeo & Juliet is. Love that is forbidden is inherently dangerous and the path is surprisingly well trodden.
My advice is that you should keep the storyline as dynamic as possible. Lots of readers can tell from the get-go what's going to happen. If there is a poor peasant that working in a field, odds are he's going to go on a quest and marry a princess and live happily ever after. If there's a lonely girl, chances are she's going to meet the guy of her dreams and live happily ever after.
Actively attempt to throw your readers off the scent, while setting the stage for the next surprise. All writing is based on deception. Predictability is your worst enemy.
As for how to start, I would suggest just writing and submitting it here on YWS. There are many people on here that would love to take your story apart and find ways to make it better. If it's too predictable, they can tell you. If it is cliche, they can tell you. If you surprise them, they'll love you.
