I'm Tanya and I'm a junior moderator here on YWS. What does it mean? Nothing fancy: but you can come to me if you have any questions about . . . well, anything!
YWS can be a handful when you first get here, but if you look at the almost top right, there's a blue question mark that may answer most of your questions.
Basically, what makes this site go 'round is reviewing and posting. You review other people to get points to post, and in exchange other people review for you. Keep an eye out for other peoples' reviews if you aren't sure at first how to go about it. That might help.
If you need help, feel free to ask just about anybody. We're a friendly bunch, always ready for new talent.
We are sooo glad to have you on our site, It acutally isn't that hard, once you master it, and all of us are like awesome. (not bragging, but we are. there is no denying it.) Its a great way to meet other writers and, of course get reviews on your own work, and review others. You would not believe how much I've improved, and I haven't even been here a year!!
Just click that link, and then do you see the little icon underneath my avatar or picture or signuture? click that and fill in the blanks on the chart. then hit send. We'll get you a mentor, and that person can help you out with getting to know the site!!
So Tanya and Drama pretty much covered it all for the help and such... You'll get the hang of it soon, and once you do, it's going to be less confusing. Like Tanya said, reviews will help you as much as getting reviews. It's soooo important you do both.
I'm sure you'll be able to learn tricks and other stuff to help you write, and I have confidence you will improve. Don't be afraid to post your stuff, because getting reviews is what helps. Sometimes, the opinion of someone else is going to make you realize things that you didn't even notice at first, and you'll be able to perfection your story. Also, when most of us do reviews, we try to point out some things you could make better as much as things that we liked. The main thing for this is to make your story better. You should not be offended by anything they say, and if you do, tell them their review was too harsh. Too many times, they didn't intended to make you feel that way and will apologize.
Hope I see you around soon!

Down in the dark, alone at night. Bleeding and Torn... Broken in the light
I only know that learning to believe in the power of my own words has been the most freeing experience of my life. It has brought me the most light. And isn't that what a poem is? A lantern glowing in the dark. — Elizabeth Acevedo, The Poet X
