Shorter then I wanted it to be, will probably flesh it out much later on, but overall I like it.
Chapter 5
Rage, For Beginners
The lights shut off without warning. The warehouse which we had entered was now a playground for the darkness. Lucas who's arm I was desperately clinched too disappeared into thin air. In that instant I felt more alone then I ever had in my life.
"Lucas? Where did you guys go?" My voice was shaky.
I put my hands out in front of me so that I wouldn't run into anything or anybody. The next sound I heard sent chills down my spine. The intense scream of a girl. I didn't know who it was but it was coming from my right. Despite being scared out of my mind I had to go toward it. A screaming person is better then no person at all.
The warehouse was unfamiliar to me, hidden deep within the corn. It looked abandoned from what I had seen while the lights were on. This night had gone from bad to worse all in a matter of minutes. The warehouse was pitch dark, I couldn't see anything. It was eerie, after the scream I had heard no more noise.
"Ow" It was strange to hear the sound of my own voice with all the silence. I had hit my leg on something. Bending down on my knee I felt around and realized I had run into stairs. The sound defiantly came from this direction. So I carefully made my way up the stairs, each step seeming to get louder as I made my way to the top.
I tripped when I reached the top of the stairs, catching myself before I did a face-plant. Everything was still pitch dark. I could see nothing so I tried to call out to the person who had screamed.
"Hello? Is someone up here? I heard a scream. Are you all right?" My voice carried throughout the warehouse. No answer ever came. The source of the scream had seemed to vanish. At best they had simply left, at worst...I didn't want to think about it. Then out of nowhere a ball of light appeared a few feet from me. It glowed but with no color. Just a clear orb.
I approached it trying to get a better look. The clear orb then flashed into a flurry of red colors. It was beautiful and I couldn't take my eyes off of it. I found myself unable to do anything except walk straight for the orb. My hand reached out and as soon as I touched it the orb exploded into a ball of flames that shot me backward and onto the ground.
The impact only left me slightly disoriented. I picked my head up off the ground and turned to where the explosion had occurred. Standing where the orb used to be, in the moonlight that was now shining through the ceiling, was none other then Violet.
"Violet, glad I finally found someone else, even if it is you." I picked myself up off the ground and into a standing position.
"Shut up Lydia." Violet had hostility in her voice.
"I don't have time for this Violet, where is everyone else?"
"I said shut up."
From what I knew of Violet she was usually this mean. For some reason though this time she was really beginning to make me angry. My blood starting pumping faster and faster. I was always able to control my emotions, my anger. For some reason that wasn't happening this time. I could feel my heart rate increasing. It was only a matter of time before I exploded.
"Violet...something is wrong. This doesn't make sense. The power going out. The floating orb thing. You suddenly appearing out of nowhere. What is going on? The furiousness was clear in my voice. It was clear I was holding back a lot of anger.
"Release your anger, your hatred. You hate me. Do you know why you hate me Lydia? Why every time you see me your blood boils?" Violet started walking closer to me. My fist were clinched so tight my hands were starting to turn red, my body throbbing from the condensed rage inside me.
"If you know why, then just tell me." I could feel heat coming from my body. My ponytail came undone, I could see the hair band fall to the floor, becoming ashes before it even hit the ground.
"Your anger for me is blinding your true reasons. You love him, don't you? Funny, you've never even spoken to him, let alone looked straight into his eyes. You are so pathetic."
"Shut up!" The heat from my body erupted like a volcano. Fire shot up from all around me, knocking Violet back, just inches from actually burning her.
"What...what is going on?" Violet let, standing to her feet.
"You know damn well what is going on!" I clinched my fist and fire engulfed them. I slung both my fist and the fire shot from them like a bullet, heading straight towards Violet. Just before they made impact, they stopped. Violet stood there, in shock. In an even bigger fit of rage, I slung as many fireballs as I knew how too. Each one, stopping before hitting her.
"Lydia." Violet said complete frozen, her voice filled with so much fear. "What is going on." The balls of fire fell to the ground, harmlessly disappearing. My rage kept growing and growing. I walked towards Violet.
"Lucas. You cannot have him." I said, continuing my advance.
"That's not really your choice is it?" Violet said, despite her position.
"It's going to become my choice, right now." I was standing face to face with Violet.
"I'm not afraid of you."
"You will be." I grabbed her throat, and held on tight. She started gasping for air and clawing at my hands. Heat protruded from my body, my hands turned red. Fire formed at my shoulder and made it's way down my arm. Violet struggled even harder, her eyes grew wide in panic. I was going to kill her.
"Lydia!" A voice shouted from behind. I shoot my head around to see none other then Lucas standing there. "What are you doing?" He ran over to where we were. "Let her go!" I clinched harder causing Violet to pass out. Lucas pushed me down and away from Violet.
"Lucas, it's not what it looks like, she attacked me!" I lied.
"I don't know what to believe, but right now we have to leave. Some really crazy stuff is happening here and we have to get out." Lucas reached down to help me up. After helping me he walked over to Violet and picked her up. "Let's go find everyone else." He smiled. After that the rage I had feeling completely left my body. I had now seen the error of my ways. A single tear from down my cheek as I walked behind Lucas.
"You would have failed, had he not shown up." A voice echoed through my mind. "Do not speak, only you can hear me. Know this, something has happened. Destiny has been altered. That girl cannot be allowed to live, for she was to die. Do not allow your friends to know that you will be here killer. Do whatever it takes it set things right, or everyone's destiny is in grave danger."
A menacing smile lit up on my face. I didn't care who or what the voice was, I didn't even care that the impossible had happened and I had used some kind of ability I shouldn't have. No longer would I sit by in quiet, rage my now my only friend. Violet would die.
