Before you read anything else, be sure to read this: The lineart is not mine. I used it by permission from the original artist, karinasuperkul, on DeviantArt.com. This is the link to the lineart I used.

I did, however, do the coloring. Sophitia is a fictional character in the Soul series of video games, and she has an already set color scheme. I blundered right into this one without research, so I didn't realize I was coloring fanfic until I was nearly finished. ><
Oh well.

Wow. This is really pretty. And at the same time its not. It's empowering and makes women look less like damsels and more like heroes, which I totally love =]. Well the lineart is beautiful as well as the coloring of it all. I like the color scheme and the proportions are very good. One of the smaller things that other people might not like, but I do, is how her neck is literally a millimeter too thick. But I think that adds to her masculine beauty. So wonderful job to the artists =]]

Hey! :D I saw the title and just had to check this out!

First of all, this is very unique. I've never seen or heard of the character before, so the design is really interesting to me! Like Ty said, I think the best thing about this is that she looks more like a hero than a typical beautiful maiden type character.

Since you didn't come up with the design, I'll just critique the coloring then :)

Overall, it's beautiful! The colors look soft, yet somehow vibrant, if that makes any sense x) . But you said it had a set color palette? So that means the colors weren't your idea either, right? Still, the shading seems to be right on.

The only thing I can suggest would be to add some details of your own, because it kind of reminds me of a coloring book. It's a very clean design, and a great character sketch, but there's nothing really... artsy? x)

I hope this was useful! I'll see you around :D

Thanks for your comments and advice guys!

tydecker - How exactly was it "really pretty" yet "at the same time it's not"? Was it the thick neck? I'll have to admit it troubled me too, but I wasn't about to try and edit the lineart. (If you look closely at the farthest foot in my piece and the original lineart, you'll notice that I did edit the lineart a little bit)

BlackSheep - I know what you mean. I wanted the cloth to be light and airy, transparent almost. But I didn't want it to make her look too feminine. To offset the light pink, I added the harsh grey and the striking gold. Also, I made the color scheme myself. It has a set color scheme, but I did not find out about it until after I was half-way through the coloring. Therefore, the colors are entirely mine. :D
For the metal shading, I put down a flat grey, dodged and burned the opposing sides and then used the 'blur' tool while 'scatter' was on. If you look closely (at the full sized version) you can see that this gives it a beaten metal texture, try it yourself! :)
