I believe a chippie would be a place that serves chips. Or french fries, as we like to call them.

Has anyone seen "A Fish Named Wanda"

Hehe. Heard of the famous fish and chips? Chicken and chips? And so on. You get all of these at a 'chippie', just like Lama Lama said. Never thought about it before, but I guess as you don't call chips 'chips' in America, you wouldn't call chippies 'chippies' either lol. :P So what do you call chippies in the US? :?

But I guess if you went to a 'burger joint', you wouldn't be going for fish and chips; you'd be going to eat burgers primarily. I'm not sure the chippie near school even has burgers. Maybe there isn't an equivalent...(?)

The Chippie doesn't do burgers because it's a Chippie. It does suppers like; Sausage suppers, Fish Supper, and stuff... and normally a Chippie doesn't have seats so you order your food and leave. =]

I like the chippie. I want to have some big, fat, greasy, fatty chips from the chip shop now. =[

Fish n chips never really caught on in the states. Sure we have it, its widley available, but its not quite the same. Most restaurants kiddie menues will have a chicken finger thing, which is similar.

I think the closest thing we have is like a White Castle or a Bronco Burger.

There are plenty of places that are similiar to a Chippie here in the states. You got Checkers, In 'N Out Burger, Sonic, just to name a few. In 'n out burger is awesome, but Checkers is a close second. Sonic is good too, but it's harder for me to get to a Sonic than it is to get to a in 'n out burger (closest Sonic to me is down in southwestern Virginia, which is about a five hour drive from DC; the closest In 'N out burger is in Los Angeles...).

Can't get suppers at those places, but there's plenty of burgers and chicken to be had.

I've never heard of In 'n Out... but I have heard of Sonic and Checkers... the closest Sonic I know of is in LA (the state) and the closest Checkers I know of is in GA (the state)... so I don't go there a lot (I mean who would want to drive 12-17 hours just to go to a Sonic or Checkers??)

Sonic is horrible. Never had In N Out...but I want to try. I guess thats one more reason why I should get off my lazy a$$ and finally go and visit California (a place I've never been before, despite the fact that my Uncle lives in Oceanside-ride by San Diego)
Checkers, though, is AMAZING. I lurve it.
