This is my third step-by-step type drawing on this site. The only reason I'm doing these is because people have told me that they are interesting/helpful so if it gets to the point of being annoying, I trust you guys will let me know :)
Named: Aemon (the Irish version of Edmund)

I apoligize that it's not centered; I couldn't figure out how to fix that x(
so here's the first sketch

lineart

here's filling in the color

Here I used the help of some GIMP brushes to get the black feathery magic-y stuff x)

And erasing some useless lines to get the final result

Okay first of all, I really like this. I'm still totally and completely jealous of your digital drawing skills!! Now, gimmy a paper and some artists pencils, and I can whip up something awesome, but a computer? No way, nuh-uh. I'm done for. Pahaha.

I think the one thing that's bugging me about this is that he seems a little too short and wide. Kind of like you took a normal guy, and then squished him down. I don't know if you meant to do that, or if it's just because he might be far away? I don't know, but he just seems... squished, in a way.

I really like the shading. It's amazing. The highlights and shadows on the coat, hair, and pants definitely give the drawing depth. Even though there's no background, just because of the way you drew and shaded this piece, I can definitely tell there's wind. I love it :3 though I do think you should add just a tad more shading around the arm, because right now it kind of blends into the back of the coat and gets kind of lost.

Besides that, I really really like this! I'm so jealous~ >.< hahaha

Keep up the good work! :3

Oh wow, that's so cool! wish I could do that! IT's really cool how you covered thier face with hair, i'mm guessing you didn't like you their face came out? I'll have to use that ;) Wait, you drew the line's in the first drawing on the COMPUTER! Oh my gosh, amazing I have no such amazing ninja skills! The colors were a little bland, I would have liked a good blue of green, although it looks fine with it's colors.
umm, nothing else to say i guess. .. bye

I don't have a critique or a review I just have to say he reminds me a little of Ed from FMA :D especially with the cloak and the hair... (if only it was in a braid :D )

That's all I gotta say, awesome job!
Are you a Badfish, too?

I've recently become fond of reviewing art, since I got into it at school, and I'm sure glad I found this entry! Well, almost everything is impressive to me, who can only draw cartoons and comics, but I like to think I'm a pretty artistic guy who can review things! Let me go step-by-step, like you did! :D

The basic pencil skeleton (scaffolding if you will) is a very good way to start it, and you drew it well. The outline is good, and you have everything there that's going to be there in the final product. Good job!

The lineart is so precise and well done that it could be a finished drawing all on its own! I love the detail you've given to ever little line in the whole figure. It looks great.

Lovin' the color blending you have once it's begun to fill in! I suck at shading and blending and such, but I love to see it done (I'm jealous I can't do it this well!). I could never paint lines of color next to each other with such precision and make it look so natural.

It looks even cooler when you add the black magic stuffy-stuff! The streaks on the head and around the staff make it look like something from a professional-quality anime (which I love when it's done right!). Again, so jealous I'm not this good at it!

And the way it all comes together at the end is flawless! Take it from someone who has a lot of conversations with professional art teachers, I wouldn't have done it any differently (if I had the ability, haha). Keep up the good work!

That's like the same steps I follow.
But I do like so many different layers to get the tones perfect, because I generally do portraits. I suck at drawing full length stuff.

Do you just use your mouse?
Or do you have a tablet and pen thingie?

I only have a mouse and it's so hard to do details with it as movement and precision are restricted.

But yeah, I like this picture. So nice. I like the feathery effect too. I wonder what brush does that.

Hey, Blacky!

I like when they show how the character modelling is made through so many different steps. The whole conception of it and then the final work put on it is really great. This character looks to be quite serious. I don't like that I can't see his face enough though. But even still, he looks pretty cool with his face covered by his hair.

I do really like how you've placed him on the sheet. Towards the far left. It gives such a dramatic feel to the drawing and gives me a good idea of the aspect that you wanted him to be seen in. Though the plain background all over is an eye-borer. You could have added in some subtle effects in the background or some sort of environment for the character to interact with. But if this piece is solely about introducing the character and nothing else, then it works that way too ^.^

The staff could have been emphasized on a bit more, I feel. The head of the staff is out of view which is always the coolest part of the staff. But by the sort of teaser-like way you've drawn it, the whole item looks to be quite well interpreted.

Another piece of yours that I really liked! The colours and the details are so well precised and really bring about the attitude. Keep drawing always!
