Hi, everyone. I'm sleepthief, and I'm new. I've been a member for about a month but I just barely discovered this forum and so I thought I should formally introduce myself. I love reading and writing, though both tend to get me in trouble as I'd rather be doing either one than the task at hand (homework, chores, errands, etc). I write general fiction with an emphasis on romance and real-life challenges, but I'd write anything down that's good and comes into my head and that includes sci-fi and fantasy. My favorite authors include Robin McKinley, Eva Ibbotson, Melina Marchetta, Cornelia Funke, and Maggie Stiefvater - and why they're all women I don't know, I'm not sexist I swear. Hmm, music: Muse, Coldplay, The National, Florence+The Machine, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Placebo, and many more. My favorite book is . . . nonexistant. But Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta is as close to perfect as you can get.

Anyway, I'm excited to be on YWS and I'm excited to see what it'll teach me. :)

Hello there, sleepthief!

An interesting name you have there, I'd be quite intrigued to hear the origins of it, though of course you don't have to tell me if you'd rather not.

I'm with you on the writing and reading getting you into trouble. Reminds me of High School when my maths tutor confiscated my book because I was reading it under the table. The worst thing is, I always waited until I'd finished the work before reading in her class because I actually did like maths.

Your list of favourite authors makes me feel like I'm missing out on something as I've only read Cornelia Funke of those but I like her a lot so if the rest are at all similar I need to check them out. Do any of them write fantasy? That tends to be my favourite genre but even if they're just a similar style or equally good in a different genre, I might still look into it.

Oh and greetings by the way xD I'm Heather, your friendly neighbourhood cat. I'm also a member of the buddy system which you might like to check out. Since you've been here a month you probably already know your way around YWS, but it's useful for other things too like making friends and getting reviews. Here's a link to the info page in case you're interested.

See you around,

Heather xxx

p.s. Feel free to om me for any help you need, question you have or if you'd like a review or a chat. I'm pretty handy all round ^^

Welcome oh thief of sleep!!

I'm lilymoore, or just lily, or lileh. I go by many names. ;) I'm on of the limy Junior Moderators here on the site (I'm like Griff up there but less scary and such. Hehe.) that means I'm here to help you in any way I can!

You may have answered the questions I usually ask but I suppose I can come up with a few others just for fun!

-- What are you reading right now?
-- Favorite color?
-- Giant floppy sun hat or clown wig?
-- Spring, summer, winter, or fried chicken?
-- Happy May 5th or Happy Cinco de Mayo?

If you have any questions, just go ahead and ask me! I'm more than happy to help!!
Never forget who you are, for surely the world will not. Make it your strength. Then it can never be your weakness. Armor yourself in it, and it will never be used to hurt you.

Thanks Griffinkeeper, Heather, and Lilymoore! You all are so nice. I never expected an online community to be this welcoming. :)

Griffinkeeper: No, I haven't yet posted anything, but I'm planning on posting one of my short stories, a rewrite of Beauty and the Beast with a twist - been done before, I know, but once I got started I couldn't stop.

Kitty15/Heather: Once upon a time when writing a spy-CIA-FBI-QRXYZ story in middle school I had to come up with a name for a bad spy dude that was causing some trouble and sleepless nights for the good guys. Since no one was getting sleep because of him, I called him "Codename: Sleepthief" and the name kind of grew on me until I decided to throw away the spy story and go with something else. :P And Robin McKinley writes exquisite fantasy novels. I highly recommend The Blue Sword for your first read.

lilymoore wrote:-- What are you reading right now? The Girl Who Played With Fire by Stieg Larsson. Waiting for the third Millenium to come out in paperback.
-- Favorite color? Redredredredredred. And purple too.
-- Giant floppy sun hat or clown wig? The attrocious floppy sun hat, because then at least I look skin-cancer conscientious.
-- Spring, summer, winter, or fried chicken? Hmm, can I have summer and friend chicken?
-- Happy May 5th or Happy Cinco de Mayo? Feliz Cinco de Mayo, por supuesto!

You guys are so nice. Have I said that already? :)

Hello, there! My name's Ayla Starr.

If you love reading and writing, you'll fit right in here. I admire you for taking on genres like sci-fi, because as a writer, I don't think I'm creative enough to make a real-enough setting, which sounds stupid, but it's true. I'd be glad to read some of them for you if you ever need someone to.

And on the subject of favorite books, I just wanted to tell EVERYONE that I finally get to read The Catcher in the Rye, and I've been meaning to read it for a few years now. Hopefully it doesn't disappoint. As of now, my personal favorite book is Madame Bovary!

Hello Sleeptheif!

Welcome to YWS! Interesting username you got there. I don't know about the rest of the authors you mentioned there, but I do know that Cornelia Funke and Maggie Stiefvater are pretty cool.

And , also, in response to this:

YWS will teach you so much. I promise. I haven't been here all that long and I've learnt heaps about writing.

Anyways, enjoy your stay here. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.

Hello! Welcome to YWS! You'll have a great time here and your writings will probably receive helpful reviews. I post excerpts from my novel and this site never disappointed me. So, whatever you're writing, you'll probably improve greatly as time passes.
Just remember to review other people's works as well!
I'm back to my YWS after months of disappearance, hoping that I'd gain the immunity of books and quills against the harmful realism of our world.

In case this made no sense, I'm just saying that I'm happy I'm back!

something I have been thinking about ever since I saw the Super Mario Bros movie is how once I took a "what Nintendo character are you" quiz and I got Waluigi.
