Hey Likeit! Welcome to YWS.

Aww I have vowed to be an author my whole life too! But never say you are a bad writer. There are people here in all stages of writing from 'I have never even thought about writing a poem before' to 'I just published my first novel!'. Don't worry everyone here is here to improve and help others in the process and we don't think twice about 'how good' you are. Plus, there is always room for improvement.

With that said what do you write? I like to write fantasy and Si-fi. I also dabble in some poetry. Do you like to read to?

And don't worry about being a better writer than any of us, I'm sure you're fine. Of course, that's what the site is for in the first place - to make you a better writer. (I've improved majorly since coming, and I'm still far from the best. )

The awesome part about YWS is that we're all pretty closely-knit here, and we love welcoming new members into the family! So, if you ever need anything, chances are that any one of us would be honored to lend a hand! Though, I'll say something quickly here:

The members with the green or dark green (I know, my greens are probably WAY off, but I'm far too lazy to go check the hex codes. .... I'm such a wonderful person) know more about the site than anybody does. xD As far as I know, anyways. They're the Junior Moderators and the Moderators - and they're here to help if you ever have any questions.

Hello Lyric!

I'm sure you'll fit in great, and I'm sure your a good writer, so don't fret over anything. Be sure to use correct capitalization, check your posts for grammar, and typos, and all that grand stuff. Here a few tips I like to give:

1. We do a 2:1 ratio thing here. That is, we expect 2 reviews for every 1 piece of work you post. That is however a bare minimum, it is always nice if you do more as it makes you acquainted with other people, and it helps your writing. (Seriously, one of the best things to learn how to write, is to read others work and edit it.)

2. To go along with the 2:1 ratio thing, your YWS points, are like your own bank of cash. 75 points are used to post a literary item and 50 points are gained per review.

3. As I said above, it is nice to review others work as they will want to review yours as a sort of repayment.

4. Be nice, and remember, anything is acceptable. Pictures, lyrics, short stories, poems.... There is a lot of different stuff you can do.

You don't actually need to be a great writer here because when people review your stories or poems or whatever you post, they give you great tips on becoming better and they really help you with improving. I think this site and the people on here are amazingly helpful with everything. Reviews here are almost always detailed (especially during this month, since we have a fun new competition going around here) and they tell you what you can improve on and are always very helpful. You can even request reviews from people.

Everyone here is very friendly and welcoming. I think you'll fit right on here! If you're taking a break from writing or suffering from a small bit of writers block there are forums like Time Wasters & Games where you can procrastinate with other procrastinators ;P as well as the Writing Activities forum.

If you have any questions there's also the Question and Answers forum as well as the Information Desk. Or, of course, you could just PM one of us and we can answer your questions or simply just talk! I would also recommend joining a review team! For the month, this site has split into four teams who are competing against each other (for fun) to see which team can earn the most points! It's very fun, and you can meet a lot of people! (I'm on the Power Rangers Team! Woo! ;D)

Commenting on what House just said... I always thought it was a 3:1 ratio and we had to spend 100 points to post. Maybe that's just my bad. Anyways.

Joining this website will definitely help you achieve your goal. All the people here are happy to help if you have a question or want a review. It doesn't matter how good you are, just as long as you work your hardest to try to get better.

This month we sort of have a new thing with reviewing teams, and even though I'm on one I don't actually know too much about it. Consider joining one (it's random)! You'll meet lots of people quickly and you'll learn how to do a quality review early on, which is one of the most smiled upon things you can do here.

Have you checked out "Welcome" area? It's at the bottom of the every page, on the left-hand side under "Forums". You can find the rules, site orientation, and... other things.... there. (I know there's more, I just can't think of what, at the moment.)

Everyone I've met in the month that I've been a YWSer has been so friendly and helpful. It's sorta like facebook, but it's happy. (I find facebook depressing sometimes. YWS cheers me up.)

Have you joined a review team, yet? There's a war going on, you know. ;3 You're randomly assigned to a team, and then you give your team points by reviewing other people's work.

When reviewing, give an overall impression-- whether you liked it or not, and why. Then, move on to the nitpick, if you have any-- point out errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, etc. Try to give examples on how to fix them, though, so the writer isn't left thinking, "How do I do that?!! D':"

If you need help, contact a person with a green name. Azila's really helpful and friendly, as is Snoink. Kamas and Skins are a bit more.... rough around the edges (;3) but they're just as cool. And Artychoke is... vivacious. :3

Nate's the founder of the site, and Big Brother's next on the run of YWS royalty. They really work hard on this site, and deserve respect.

You can post art here, too! I'm not very familiar with it, but others do it.

Okay, what you said about you "not being a good writer". It really doesn't matter. In fact, that's the point of the whole website, so that you can grow as an author. We give you criticism and advice for your stories/poems. So don't feel bad, I think we're in the same boat!
