Jumping Off Swings.

A drawing and a painting I've made recently. Please comment.


This drawing is the cover of a book called Jumping Off Swings. I normally draw pictures so I can practice, but I found this one and thought it was really cool.


Some of you might have already seen this... I posted the drawing of this a while ago, and this is the final copy. It's acrylic paint of canvas.

Hey, Theo. (: These are both very beautiful. As for the first drawing, I really loved the shading on the legs. Although, the side of the left calf looks a bit off to me. The way you made the shoes is really cool, too. They look pale and aged like converse should be. The left hand looks very nice. As for the hand gripping onto the other swing, it looks a bit more smushed up and fuzzy. The overall background looks paler and a little underdone compared to the girl sitting on the swing. But in a way, it also makes the girl pop a little more in contrast to the background. I would have maybe added some better detail to the grass though. It looks a bit generic and flat.

As for the second piece you posted here, I think your color choice was beautiful. I really liked the blue on her eyelids a lot. As well as the way some of the color seems to be dripping down into the creases. The way you painted the irises of the eyes stood out very nicely as well. You added shine in just the right spots. The only thing I would have to critique on this would be the fact that the eyes seem a bit off centered. And the left eye seems to almost be pointing in an off direction.

Skin color can be a tough one I think sometimes, but the tones you blended in here for the girls face were very soft and complimenting to the other colors. Probably my favorite part would have to be the mouth and the lips. They're parted just perfectly and seem so symmetrical. I like how they're just barely opened at the peak so that the teeth are visible. The shading around the mouth is also very nice, as well as in the under-lids of the eyes. The hair is very sharp and edgy. It frames the face extremely well.

Hello! First of all, I absolutely love your two pictures. Similar to what the first comment on this post says, I also believe that your first picture should be a book cover. For the first picture, although you cannot see the face of the person, I love how you can still convey emotion through the hand being on the empty swing and the way that the legs are closed together and to the side. The picture seems to convey a sense of sadness, as if someone in their life is gone. (I'm just letting you know what I think the picture says to me!) For the second picture, it is almost as if the girl has been brought back to life, like she has been awakened by a cold dream or some kind of hurt. However, there is hope in her eyes. I absolutely love how you can convey emotion through the body movements. Do not stop drawing! You are really good at it!
