Anime/Manga Drawing

I have always loved looking at manga and anime drawings and today I had my first real try at drawing a manga boy. I know it's really simple but I just wanted to hear some feedback. Thanks a ton- CuteJackRussell

Your drawing is good...I personally like it.

So, you anme is good, but you need to work on the hair and eyes, the most significant parts of anime. You can google around for tutorials, but here and here are a few good places to start.

It's pretty good, but you need to work on some parts.
Hair: It's really good. I don't see anything wrong with it. It just needs a little more work.
Eyes: Usually in anime, the eyes would be more symmetrical. Yours is almost symmetrical, but the top line (Eyelash...I think) on the right eye is more shaded in or darker than the other one. I personally think it's really good. I can't really draw boy eyes as well.
Ears: The ears are well drawn, but it seems that the ear is a bit high. Not trying to be mean or anything, but who has an ear above their eyes and eyebrows?
Mouth: All you have to do for the mouth is to slightly move it to the right more, and draw it more carefully.
Overall: It's really good, but the shape of the face is a bit sketchy. Other than that, it's really good. All you need to do is improve a little more.

Pretty neat for a first attempt and your also only twelve so this is pretty good. Although I'm no Anime expert, since I find the style a little over done, I will review this to the best of my abilities.

I recommend you to study or copy other artist before doing your own works, it really allows one to see how things work. really give everything a good look and try to draw exactly what you see. Once you get how the style works it's a lot easier to do your own thing.

I do have issues with the hair anime hair is the trademark of the style, I suggest you look up pictures or some tutorials. You got the general idea for everything else the face should be more even and the lines should be less messy. Looking up some more pictures would be a good idea.

I agree with the others and think that the best way for you to improve is to look up other artists and try to recreate some of their designs. I do a lot of that myself! Since you're interested in dabbling into the anime/manga style, I highly suggest looking up Mark Crilley on youtube. He was probably the one that got me re-inspired with art, and he has TONS of different tutorials on his channel, all aimed at beginners like you.

Very nice! Especially for a person your age (no offense--it's just I only am decent now, ha-ha). In general, I like it. He has such an awed look on his face. Great job as far as expression goes!

Now, for the dirty work of critiques. *sighs*

1. I suggest you make future hair look a bit more uneven, not like they have perfectly formed rings of hair. I.e. leave a few places where you currently have ink non-inked. Also, if you aren't going to color but want to show that 'halo' people get, you can leave a lack of ink to show it.

2. Eyebrows. They are needed. (I've said this a lot recently, though, so don't feel bad.)

3. His ear, while lovely, is a little too high on his head. My earlobes hit about 2/3 of an inch below my eyes and the tips of my ears meet my eyebrows. Manga eyebrows are a bit higher (and normally less bushy), but keep that in mind...and look at other people. Note: People with misplaced ears normally have severe medical conditions. If he has a severe medical condition, he gets a free pass. ...This I was told by a former nurse. *nods*

4. His neck needs to be a mite wider.

5. Eyes are at the middle of your face. His chin should be a bit lower.

Okay, so that's all. I hope some of those suggestions/anatomy notations help with your future drawings--and be sure to keep drawing. You have an interesting style.

Hi, dearie. I've always loved looking at Manga and Anime myself. In fact, when I was a kid, it was the kind of drawing style I always did. This is pretty good. I'll consider your age for this one. It was OK, and I'm glad to hear you're really interested in drawing manga, and I hope you also take interest in improving. Now for the nitpicks:

The first thing I've noticed here that would pretty much bother artists was the ear. It was too high. It should be somewhat aligned with the eyes, because in real life, well it is. I know Manga doesn't require precise proportions, but it still looks the best with nicely done proportions. Take a look at this, for an example:



The ear is aligned with the eyes. Another thing I'd like to mention is the eyebrows. They're too short and are too dull. Giving the brows life would give out emotion. Like the examples above, look at the eyebrows, when curled up slightly at the part by the nose, it could mean that the person is worried. If slightly curled down, mad.

But all in all, this is very nice for a first shot. I hope my review helps you improve. KEEP DRAWING!

Hey! For a first try, this isn't bad at all. In fact this is amazing for a first try. My first manga character looked terrible!

Hm.. Let's start! Remember, it's your first time! That's absolutely okay! I'd feel so bad, if I don't tell you my honest opinion. So, endure me, please!

The eyes don't match perfectly. There are lines in the left eye that isn't there in the right one. I also think that the left eye is bigger than the right one. The cheekbone and the jaw are very rigid and they aren't balanced. See his right cheekbone? It's too high and it's pointed as well. The left side of his jaw is very big and its lines is wavy and unfocused.

The mouth is too sharp, looking almost like a perfect triangle. It's very pointed, so you might want to flex it a little. Also, the hair should be drawn with more flexible and smooth lines, not sharp ones.

That's all! But I do praise this for a first try, trust me! It's all about flexibility. Yes, I said that word a lot, but it's truly important!

Wow, this is your first try? You're amazing!

He's really good for a first time. But a couple of things to work on... Try not to make hair hair so.... Hair-textured-y. And his eyes don't need two white balls in them, one works just fine.
Other than that I think you did great!
