Chapter 6: Gym Class

I open the door and stop in front of Mr. Wolf’s class. He teaches Calculus. I hate calculus. I despise it with a passion. I am not bad at it but I do struggle. I walked in beside Zack, wondering why he was here. I raised my eyebrow in question at him. I walked to t he back to take my usual seat next to Toriah. Instead of answering me, he walked up to Mr. Wolf’s desk and handed him a note that I didn’t see him holding. That is when Mr. Wolf stood up and walked to the front of his desk.

“Attention class, we have a new student. This is Zackariah.” he said, gesturing to the tall guy standing next to him.

Everyone looked at him. Girls smiled, hoping he would notice them, fixing their hair and pulling down their shirts. Boys looked hopeless, seething with jealously. However, oddly enough, he never even paid any of those girls’ attention. He stared straight at me, with a smile playing in his eyes until I looked his way. He winked at me. My breath caught in my throat. Then that is when the Wolf told him to sit down. Surprisingly, he took a seat right next to me. I turned to Toriah and she just rolled her eyes, disgusted. Silently, mouthing to her I had to talk to her after class, the bell rung. Not stopping to worry about where Zack was, I rushed her out of there.

“What’s up with him? Something feels wrong.” She said quietly. Her eyes were filled with anger as she looked at me.

“Nothing, you are over reacting. Can you at least try to be nice to him, for me?” I said, battling my eyelashes and sticking my lip out. She harrumphed and turned her back to me.

“Please!!!” I begged.

“Okay, okay.” she said, resigning to the fact.

“Oh, thank you, thank you. You’re the best!!!” I beamed, hugging her tight. This made her laugh.

“I got to remember to keep you out of trouble.” she says winking at me.

“Ha Ha Ha.” I said, dryly. At that I went to go try to catch up with Zack. When I got to him he looked really happy to see me.

“Hey.” I said

“Hey, yourself.” he said, in that deep, rich voice I loved hearing over and over again. I could listen to him talk all day long. Damn! He is SO hot! I tried to play it cool.

“So...I didn’t know you were going her.” I ask, innocently.

“Yeah, I transferred this morning.” he stated.

“Oh. From where?” I ask, stepping closer to him.

“Well, I transferred from a private school.” He said, evasively.

“Oh. where is it?” I asked, curiously.

“Uh...just from down south.” he said. “Well, this school sucks, I don’t really like it here. You’re the only reason I would ever set foot in this place.” he said, fanning his breath in my face, making my knees turn to jelly.

I had to turn my head from keep blushing. He laughed at me, but it wasn’t like on of those mean laughs. It was a warm and comforting laugh, that washed over me like a wave, igniting a fire inside of me that I never knew I had. He moved even closer, so close that I felt myself melting at the heat he was giving off, rolling off of him waves. I looked into his sparkling eyes, and lost myself.

“So, what are you doing tonight?” he asked.

“Hanging out with my boring family.” I roll my eyes at the thought of sheer boredom. That's when he was so close I could feel the muscles in chest contract over me, whispering in my ear.

“Or you could be hanging out with me. I’ll pick you up at eight.” That’s when he walked away.

Leaving me there to gather myself, hell, I don’t know if that was possible. My legs were Jell-o. My breath was shallow, I think I was holding it too long. Let’s not forget the fact that my brain was mush. Not a coherent thought in my head. The bell chooses to ring at this and I float all the way to P.E. I went to the locker room and nearly knocked into someone, quickly, I got into my P.E. uniform. It’s pretty boring. It honestly is, a too big shirt and man-sized basketball shorts don’t help my figure at all.

“Well, this is as good as it’s gonna get.” I say to my reflection. Then, heading out of the door, I see Toriah lounging on a bleacher making all the guys stop and stare. Sometimes, I don’t think Toriah sees how hot she really is. I mean practically every guy in our school secretly wants her. Even though we aren’t a part of the popular crowd, we aren’t completely social outcasts. I think it is mostly because of Toriah. I run towards her.

“Girl!!!! Guess what??!!!” I say excitedly.

“What?” she asked, looking at me over her proverbial sunglasses.

“ I have a date with Zack!!!! Well he sorta told me he was going out with me, but I don’t care. God, he’s so cute.” I say jumping up and down, unfortunately, I wasn’t paying attention to where I was going and crashed right into him. Or should I say his rock solid chest.

He steadies me so I don’t fall over, chuckling, “ Hey cutie. I like the uniform.” He traces the small of back. I couldn’t say anything, all I could do was stare. He had these weird tattoos. As I just stare, Mr. Gibbers blew the whistle.

“It’s time for the dodge ball unit. Divide up into two teams of five. Then I will explain the rules.” he said.

“Lets do guys against girls.” someone suggested.

“No way, there’s three girls and seven boys!! That’s not fair!!” One of the girls snapped, glaring at the person that had suggested such a thing.

“How about I give you all a number of one or two.” The teacher said, ever the diplomat.

As he assigned us all a number, I could see everyone trying to place themselves so they would be on the same team. Amusement filled the teacher’s eyes as he switched up the order, making friends against friends in some cases. After he had finished the ones when on the left and the twos went to the right.

We began the long and tedious game rather quickly. I dodged a ball that came flying out of no where to my left, just barely missing my side. I looked to see who threw the ball. It was Toriah, laughing at my shocked expression.

“Not funny, T. You could’ve taken my head off.” I said fuming on the inside.

“But you love me!” she said, laughing even harder.

“Okay, that’s it! You are so going to get it!” I screeched chasing her with the ball in my hand. That is when another ball pelted me in my side, almost thrashing me to the ground. At that moment, Mr. Kibbers blew his whistle.

“Jazmyn, you’re out.” he said with a smug look on his face. I looked over to see who threw it and it was Zack. Out of all the people to get me out. He had laughter in eyes, which only ticked me off even more. Resignedly I stomped over to the bench and nosily sat down. Gym class was going to be a long one.
