Adrianne's POV.
I woke up to the sound of my 6:30 alarm, a noise that put me in a bad mood every single school day. My hand automatically reached out and smashed down on the clock making the terrible beeping noise, it stopped, but my hand now hurt. I lay in bed and realised that even though this was only the second day in my new house, both my dad and step mum were already on another business trip, and it was today I would find out if me and Rox was doing the ‘mind swap’ experiment - and it was exactly a month till Rox’s birthday and Matt and I hadn’t even started to organise anything. Before I could realise anything else someone started ringing me.
Someone was ringing me, at 6:35 in the morning.
I managed to find my phone, and answer it.
“Rox? Since when have you ever been awake at this time on a school day?” I asked, realising it was my best friend.
“ADRIANNE! WE'RE DOING THE EXPERIMENT!” was her reply down the phone, if she would have said anything else I would have hung up, but this caused me to scream with excitement, then scream with pain when I fell out of bed.
“Tell you the details later, I gotta go!” She said happily, and hung up.
I lay there for about two minutes before reaching for my phone; I read a text message from my boyfriend Justin, and then searched through my contact list for the name Matt. I called my gay best friend, and he answered straight away.
“ADIE!” Was his greeting.
“Hey Matt! We're walking to school today!” I said, still happy.
“Awesome, we going now?, because I’m ready!” He asked. Jeeze, does this guy even sleep?
“No, since I’m currently laid on the floor, in my pyjamas.” I said.
“Did you fall out of bed again Adrianne?” He asked, I wasn’t sure if he was questioning me, or concerned about me.
“Yea, kind of, just let yourself in!” I replied, and hung up.
The decision to move was a good and bad one, bad since I use to live just across the street from Rox, good because now we now live next door to my grandparents, and right across from Matt.
After getting up, I made my way to the bathroom, tripping over a trainer in the process. I washed my face, brushed my teeth and combed through my hair - which was a horrible brown colour - you could never tell if it was wavy or curly. As I stepped out of the bathroom, Matt had just walked in, I realised that instead of his school uniform he was wearing his usual out of school look; a v-neck, skinnies and vans.
It took me the few seconds of Matt giving me a disappointed look, and him walking into the living room to realise it was non uniform day.
I happily skipped back into my room and opened my wardrobe, I rummaged through and settled on a similar pair of light blue ripped skinnies to what Matt had on, the only glamour kills t-shirt I had, my beloved blue leather jacket and my purple high-tops.
After getting changed, I grabbed both my phone and IPod and headed downstairs. Only to find Matt sat on the couch eating co-co pops.
“You’ve found the cereal?” I asked sceptically, Even I didn’t know where it was.
“Honey, Joana’s organization skills are just so cliché, it was obvious they’d be under the sink.” He answered, a bit gayer than usual.
I had met Matt when I met Rox, they were dating at the time, and it lasted until Matt admitted he was gay, I guess I knew from the start, the way he acted, and the way he looked. Matt wasn’t hot, he was pretty, really pretty, and a lot too pretty to be straight.
I rolled my eyes, and took the bowl off him and placed it in the kitchen.
“Is there a specific reason we're walking to school?” Matt asked, curiosity sparkled in his eyes.
“Well, Rox rang me...” I went to carry on but got cut off.
“Rox is up? Wow...anyway; we digress” Matt quietly rambled.
“AND WE'RE DOING THE EXPERIMENT!” I shouted, to make the excitement of the whole thing a lot more effective. Matt hugged me, and then both he and I started jumping up and down until I grabbed his wrist and pulled him outside.
As I was walking down the street, I saw a very hot boy, and when I mean very, I mean very, he was about Matt and I’s age, Matt would’ve spotted him too...if he wasn’t dead.
He was a ghost.
Yes, I can see ghosts.
“Right, so we have the orchestra trip tomorrow, and then Saturday you, Rox, Damien and I are going to that gay protest” Matt said, bringing me out of my daydream about the hot ghost across the street.
“Who’s Damien?” I asked.
Matt gave me an adorable cheeky smile, and just said.
“You’ll find out.”
Chapter Two.
Roxannes POV.
I sat in form, waiting for my two best friends to enter.
Soon enough Adrianne and Matt entered, earning a dirty look from the school bitch; Charmaine...or Chow Mein as we like to call her. I was soon able to hack into her mind (Yes, I could read minds).
What the hell is Justin doing with that skank?
I wanted to go over there and slap the stupid tangerine bitch, I knew Justin was cheating on Adie, and I'm sorry, once that is proven without me revealing I can read minds, I will kick his sorry little arse. If Adie doesn’t beat me to it, that is.
Adie came and sat beside me; Matt took a seat at the desk in front of us, and span his chair around.
"Well, now she's here, I would like to congratulate both Adrianne and Roxanne on taking part in the mind shadow project!" The teacher congratulated.
The mind shadow project...
Basically, Adie and I were going to swap minds for a week, meaning she was going to find out I could read minds.
I guess I could’ve easily proved it to her before, but I didn't want to invade her mind, so I had never even tried.
But, anyway...my guess is that Adrianne's mind is a dangerous place to be.
"So you excited?" I asked my best friend simply.
"I'm so happy, I could shit rainbows!' She said a bit too loud, earning her second dirty look from the teacher who had just congratulated us.
Adrianne and I just... clicked when we met, we weren't afraid not to be the ‘good’ girls, being a rebel takes skill, a skill I inherited of my big brother Jared, and a skill that Adrianne inherited from spending eleven years growing up in some of the roughest places of New Jersey.
Yes, my best friend was American, she moved over to the UK, to live in the rainy town of Wigan with her dad and step mum leaving her mum and her twin brother Chris in Jersey.
And though she was American, out of her, Matt and I she still had the most northern accent since me and Matt were posh gets.
Our first lesson was math’s, we had a non-uniform day and we weren't even doing anything special, the head had just got bored of listening to us lot complain about how shit it was to wear the horrible school uniforms every single bloody day. But I realized it was a Thursday and that we would have laptops in the lesson meaning, instead of playing the math’s games out teacher wanted us to play, we would just sit back get out our earphones and listen to music.
The bell rang, and as the whole form squeezed its way through the single door our teacher reminded us about the trip we were going on tomorrow.
To the orchestra…bloody great.
I sat between Matt and Adrianne in maths, and since I couldn’t really be bothered Adrianne made the first disruption for the day, she stood up.
“Oi! Who has earphones?!” She shouted, making most of the class jump, since most of the class was scared of both Adie and I.
“Me?” Came a small voice.
“Wait, who said that?” Adie said, not being able to track were the voice was coming from. The person who had offered earphones put his hand up.
“Chuck ‘em” Adie instructed, and a pair of blue earphones flew her way.
“Thank you. You are now my new best friend.” She then said softly.
It was my turn to get involved.
“Hey, what about me?” I said, childishly.
“Do you have earphones? No, thought not, so be quiet!” She said, trying to keep a straight face but Matt and I laughing did her no justice and she sat down.
The rest of the day flew by, I got excited when Matt invited me to a gay protest in a town nearby on Saturday, were we would meet ‘Damien’, and I laughed at Matt being dragged along to gymnastics for Adie’s little stepsister, since her parents were already on another business trip and her grandparents were going out for a meal.
Adrianne’s POV.
I stepped inside my house with Matt, and went up to my room. We only had to go the gymnastics at 5, so he said he would help me start decorating. I had already bought numerous tubs of paint, and everything was still packed away except my bed so we only had to paint the walls.
“So, why can’t Rox join us?” Matt asked.
“Guitar lesson” I answered back simply as I rummaged through one of the boxes to find my IPod speakers. I found them and plugged my IPod in and choose the album ‘Nothing Personal’ by All Time Low.
The hour of painting flew by, so far one wall was painted bright blue, one bright pink, and honestly, until I get my poster up if you walked in here you would have no idea what kind of music I liked, because at the moment my room looked like it belonged to a major Justin Bieber fan girl. I looked out of my window and nearly died when I saw the hot ghost from this morning just sat in the garden, he wasn’t doing anything wrong but it just freaked me out.
“Adie, what are you looking at?” Matt asked joining me by the window, obviously he couldn’t see the strange ghost in my garden so I just replied with a simple ‘nothing’ and we went to pick up my sister and go to gymnastics.
