have you seen the trees behind the deserted mosque?
there's nothing wrong with the place, there's nothing in it
there's no one, there's no space in it
I'm just a spectator taking the whole scene in
I looked at the skies and couldn't see hope
then I looked at the earth, but I couldn't see the core
the co-incidence made me smile
at the ghost of footsteps as they trail away
thinking an unanswered call means a refusal
but God prefers silence when it comes to testing you
I prefer to watch him do what he likes
and then wonder if I'm wrong or if I'm right
sometimes it's not about where I go: Heaven or Hell
but the gratitude demanded out of a shivering slave
the thanks for the protection and the pain
the cry of child as they cut off the umbilical
the tune is insane I can't sing to it
so I let the heart beat
and when it catches up with the clock
I'll choose to believe
