After many novels gone wrong, or simply put on hold here I am. This is the first book I ever wrote. I made it when I was 13. Now after gathering hundreds of illegible pages and realizing they were well...illegible, I've taken the depth and idea of the story and am recreating it in a more modern, well-written, novel. No matter what happens now, this will be the first book I attempt to publish. No others come till it's done.

Snip-it from the chapter Emeth.

"Lydia! Annabeth! Riley!" I called out their names in hope of a response. Nothing. No path behind me and only a single one in front of me. What other choice did I have? I could aimlessly run through the corn but I would only get more lost. If I keep following the path I will find someone eventually. After everything that had happened so far tonight, this haunted maze was getting a little bit too haunted for my taste.

The moon was guiding me in the right direction, perfectly linear with the pathway in front of me. I took a deep breath and walked forward cautiously. I was half expecting everyone to jump out and say "Boo! We got you!" but that didn't happen. I walked for only a few minutes and realized that the path was still a straight line. What kind of maze has this long of a path in one direction?

A dimly lit light then appeared farther down the maze's path. With each step it grew larger and larger, until it was about the size of a tennis ball. I thought it was someone with a flashlight, perhaps someone else trying to navigate the maze. I was wrong. The closer I got the more curious the light became. It bobbed up and down unnaturally. Like it was floating.

I soon found out that I was right. Within a few feet of me now stood, or floated rather, a ball-sized orb of light. Obviously I was going crazy. There was no way for light to float in midair in a solid form but was it solid? I had to be sure. Hesitantly I held my hand out to touch the orb. As I was about to touch it the color suddenly flashed into a bright blue color which forced me to jump backwards.

What the heck was this thing? I was beginning to think I was in a big game of "Get Emeth back for all the jokes he has pulled on us" but something about this was odd. The orb gave off a breeze, it was cool and it made me feel safe. I had to try to touch it again. This time I didn't give it a chance to surprise me. I threw my hand at it as quick as possible slamming my hand threw the orb which shattered.

As the pieces flew threw the air the world around me started to change. The bright light from the moon and the clouds changed into a pure white sky. My feet tingled as the dirt below me flowed away and was replaced with the most beautiful green grass I had ever seen. The air morphed from a dying corn smell to the aroma of flowers. It was amazing.

The fresh cool air caressed my face and my hair blew with the furiousness of the wind. Rollings hills of green grass and flowers the color of the rainbow surrounded me on every side. Before I knew it I had gone from a dingy corn field to the most beautiful place in the world. A smile that only a kiss from someone you love could create came across my face. This place was perfect. I almost didn't notice I was somewhere I shouldn't be able to be.

As I realized this the smile faded from my face. My head jolted back and forth as I started to panic. The sky changed then from the bright white sky to a much darker one. For a moment I thought I was going back to where I supposed to. I was wrong, again. The grass and flowers around me shriveled and died and the once fresh smelling air had became smoggy and heavy. In a moment I had gone from dingy corn field, to the most beautiful place in the world, to the worst place in the world.

"You have seen them. What is beautiful and what is ugly. What you saw was what the world used to look like. Full of beauty and peace. That is a time when everyone worked together to shape the world into a place we all wanted to live, but it didn't last long. The people became lazy and soon they stopped caring for the beautiful world they lived in. It took many years but the world began to crumble. The well kept grass and flowers wilted. The clean air was filled with toxins. The laziness and hatred even knocked the sun out of the sky. You have allowed this to happen and now you must pay."

The voice that had explained what I had just seen then began to show itself. A large figure, at least seven feet tall, was covered in the darkness. Only an outline of his body could be seen. A constantly moving darkness. The body formed it's legs which were thin and pointed at the end. It began to form it's chest which was the shape of a upside-down triangle. The darkness continued to flow to it's head which was a much smaller, skinnier upside-down triangle. The arms formed in the same was as they legs, long and skinny. Pointed ears formed on top of his head and his eyes glowed an intense blue.

"You must defeat me, Socors, or you will perish here." The creatures voice was monotone and terrified me.

My mind could not wrap around what was happening. A second ago I was a safe in a corn field and now I was in some alternate dimension or something fighting a giant monster who claimed I had something to do with destroying it's world! Nothing made any sense. I had to be dreaming. This is a physical impossibility and there was no way I could be here. My only hope was to try to wake myself up so I closed my eyes. It wasn't a good idea.

The darkness swirled around his right hand and created the form of a claw. With great speed he swiped it at me. I opened my eyes to see it was about to be to hit. I tried to dodge it, only to fall backwards on my butt just barley missing the huge claw.

"Closing your eyes during a fight? Someone is being very Fastosus for a Socors!"

I had felt the pain of falling onto my butt. Real pain. Not like that fake stuff you sometimes feel in very vivid dreams. This was real. The dream or wherever it was may not have been real but I had just felt pain and that was real. Whether my life was truly at stake, or this was simply a vivid dream of an unconscious maze goer, I knew the only way out was to fight. Wish me luck.

!:EDIT:!
In regards to Jabbers review.

Because it is a Snip-it, chapters would come before this! I suppose I should have made that bit more obvious. Also, Emeth is a boy x]. Which you would also know if this was in chronological order...once again my bad! Ha. The chapter also wouldn't normally end with "Wish me luck" I honestly threw that in as almost a hook for people who read this. Normally the chapter would keep going after that point. Sorry for any confusion!

Doe!

So I totally had this pulled up since your blog. I got distracted with school stuff though, so I kinda forgot about this. Fortunately, I finished a bunch of homework today. Time to treat myself to some YWS! :D

You know me and my love for fantasy, so I was very pleased when I read this! The idea is really cool and intriguing. The creepy figure is so cool too. Like.. I'm excited about what this all means.

I felt like this moved way too fast, however. For instance, in the beginning, I was hardly used to the fact that she was running in a maze to find someone when the crazy orb thing came. I feel like that could have been set up much better. Set that playful or panicky tone as she's trying to find these people. It'll make the orb thing even more weird. As it is now, the orb seems like an everyday thing, which I'm pretty sure it is not. xD

Building off that, I think a lot of this could be made much more suspenseful. She's scared out of her wits. She doesn't know what's happening, yet she's thrust into all these different worlds and then ends up having to fight this bad guy. A few issues I found with this! 1) She'd probably be a bit dizzy, confused, and/or overwhelmed with the world-changing. 2) I've no idea what kind of person she is, which means 3) does she fight people often? If she doesn't fight people, then not only would she be extremely confused and frightened, but fighting back is not going to be her first option. xD She'll run first. But if she does fight a lot of people back home, then that should probably be seen beforehand. In the cornfield, maybe. This is a character thing though, which means you'll have to show who she is before this craziness happens. Or show who she is during it. Both will work fabulously. I'm not sure if she's an aggressive dog or a pretty princess.

And then at the end, there were a couple nitpicks. One of them is the mention of a dream. I felt that was very random. I don't remember the dream-theory being mentioned at any point before it. Granted, I'm pretty tired right now. However, I don't remember her thinking about this. xD So ending this with a new idea isn't always good, even in chapters.Though I guess this is a snip-it, so maybe you have more I'm not aware of. Still, I'd prefer if we mentioned the dream-theory during the world-changing part.

Secondly, the last sentence, "Wish me luck," suddenly makes the whole thing feel like a diary entry because it's a tense change. She may be telling the reader a story, but it's not happening as we're reading it. I'd just get rid of it, as witty as it is. xD

That's all the feedback I've got. If you want a line-by-line, just let me know. I'll get to it later though. It takes more time than an overall like this one. xD I hope to read more! I love fantasy, and your stories are always intriguing!

Keep writing!
