Eternity
By: Colleen Tucker
Do you remember how that summer ended?
Do you remember our last kiss?
I remember it all,
From the first kiss to the last,
from the first smile to the last tear I remember,
I fell in love for the first time that summer,
I lost a piece of my soul that summer,
and I experienced a happiness greater than any I’ve ever known that summer,
The memories we made still haunt me,
even after five years I still can’t avoid the tears that roll in everytime I speak your name,
I still can’t avoid the memories that rush to the surface everytime I walk across the beach,
You’ve been gone for five years now,
they haven’t been eventful years,
nor have they been dull years,
they have simply been years,
sometimes I forget how long it’s been,
There are some days that I feel seventeen again,
and suddenly time rewinds and I’m basking in the glow of the moonlight with your arms around me again,
when time returns me to the present the pain wells up inside of me until it bursts like a balloon within me,
the tears start to fall again,
and this time they can’t be stopped,
this time all I can do is fall to my knees in the middle of the cemetary where they laid you to rest,
I scream your name into the night,
feeling my heart shatter within my chest,
the silence begins to press in on me like a pillow of stone,
it’s suffocating,
I curl my hands into fists and pound them against the ground,
I’m begging you to come back for me,
to take me with you this time,
my voice fades to a whisper when you descend from the Heavens,
Your arms are open wide as if they are waiting for me to run into them,
without hesitating I run into your arms,
the warmth of your embrace is a welcome sensation after five years without you,
When I look back down I see my shell,
she’s curled up on your grave,
her long hair falling over her face,
tears still fresh on her cheeks,
with a smile I realize that that girl is no longer me,
the sorrow I see in her face no longer resides in my heart,
I look up into your smiling face as joy fills every part of me,
when your lips touch mine everything falls into place once more,
I glance back down at the girl I have left behind to find her in the same position,
yet she looks at peace now,
she is not suffering anymore,
I am not suffering anymore.

I can picture it perfectly, which I really love. Kudos to that.
I'm not sure I like how it's all pretty much one big run-on, but I don't think you really need to change it, either.
I'm a run-on kind of poetry person. :)
And I think it would've been even more fantastic if you added more details about the guy you're talking about. You gave me a clear image of what reminds you of him, but I don't know what he looks like, or how he smells, or anything.
Thanks for the awesome read.

This is the first run-on I've ever liked. It's a really good poem. I really understand the feeling radiating from the poem. Keep writing.
