The Earth Mother

I drew this in class, while the rest of my classmates were trying to rehearse for 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'.

I know it's a bit plain and colorless, but that's the way I usually draw. The strip of cloth that she's spun around the staff she's holding are fragments of the weather - part after part. The one behind her head shows stormy seas.

I know her hand looks a little squished. And she looks a little fat because she's expecting. She is a Mother, after all.

If my drawing style's a bit odd, blame it on the way I learnt to draw - from watching cartoons.

First off, this is amazing Bonus points for creativity!
My favorite parts have to be her face and hair; she has such a lovely expression. I also like the snake around her neck!
My only nitpicks 1) the place where her arm and shoulder meet look a little off to me, like it's too bulky. 2) The leaves around her skirt need more detail because they look like a bunch of random lines.
It would be nice if you could downsize this pic so it would be easier to review, otherwise there's a lot of scrolling x)

I really like the lines on her face-they look like tiger stripes. I also like the shape of her nose. Great picture!

I really love this piece - it's beautiful and very unique. My drama class also studied a Midsummer Night's Dream, so I thought I had to take a look at this. I don't regret it!

This is lovely. Her expression and everything--very elegant. My only complaint(s) would be that, like others have said, you should really downsize this--there are a few articles about this stickied in the forum if you need help. Also, I'm not sure if it's just me, but there are a bunch of grey and white checkers on the whole thing, which makes it really hard to see.

As for the actual drawing, I agree with black sheep about her arm. My second thought was about her face--it's kind of... flat. And her features seem to be squished into the bottom half. I like the expression on her lips, and her hair is nice, but there's kindof a bulge above her eyes, which looks kinda odd, and all in all I just think her forehead is way too long and flat.
