1st Of March
Isn’t it really strange that February ends of the 28th? I find it so weird. I mean, March ends on the 31st, like all months should, but no! February has to end on a stupid date!
Anyway, Catherine called me and wants to go shopping with me, which I thought was very nice considering I’m an embarrassment.
David is huffy because he wants to move to the house but I don’t want to yet because of all the hassle. I said that to him but what did he come out with? “That’s a pile of poo because all you need to do is move your clothes and the other stuff which we can shove in the car! No removal van or anything, you are as stubborn us a bloody donkey, you are,” Great, now I’m a donkey.
Well. Back to basics. I refused Catherine’s request to go to Town because I am busy at Dad’s. I haven’t seen him for a while and I would like to know how David is doing and his new job. He never tells me, you see. Which when you think of it, it’s very worrying.
“So… Daaaaddd. How’s… Er… David… At his job?” I asked, trying to sound casual.
“Good, yeah, our boss wants to promote him, to work at the tills,” Dad said, sounding quite annoyed, as he might feel David’s over powering him a little.
“Oh gosh! That’s great! Why hasn’t he told me, though?” I wondered.
“He wanted it to be a surprise, he was going to tell you when you go out tomorrow for dinner. Oops,” He didn’t sound he was sorry when he ‘accidentally’ told me the surprise.
“Awww, that’s so nice, I guess he’s getting a pay rise with that too,” I asked.
“That’s the whole point in a promotion,” he said, sarcastically.

2nd Of March
I’m going for the scan today where we’re going to find out the baby’s sex! I’m so hyper, I ate nine pancakes and drank two whole cartons of juice.
In the waiting room, it’s very nerve racking. One woman’s waters broke in the middle of the corridor. It gushed out just like that. I tried to escape from the premises but David caught me just in time for the scan.
“Jessica Reynolds?” Jeni called, holding the door for me as I walk in.
“How are you today? Feeling well?” Jeni asks, getting that gel stuff ready.
“Umm… Yeah, I’ve had to much stuff to eat, though,” I say as I pull myself up on the bench and tug my floral top up. Jeni laughed.
“Okay. Right, lets see this little one then, shall we?” She ran the thingy over my belly to show my growing baby. Me and David were gazing at the screen when she announced the sex. “Well… You are going to be having a -!” I was so excited when she said lose words. David was bounding around the room and I was tapping my feet. Oh yes! I haven’t shown you what she was saying because I’m not telling you! Not until he/she is born. I know, that’s so cruel of me, but I want a little bit of a surprise.
“Ummm…. Could you wait there, for me, Jessica, I need to go get someone,” Jeni stammered, looking puzzled.
“W-W-What’s the matter?” I asked, nervously.
“I’m not sure,” She replied, walking out and returning with a tall, dark, handsome man beside her.
“Hello, Jessica. How are you today?” He asked.
“Ooh, don’t give me that. ‘How are you?’ You don’t care, none of you do. So do your job and tell me what is wrong with my baby!” I barked.
“Babies,” the man corrected. “There’s two heartbeats,”
“You say what now?” I said, shocked.
“You have twins, look,” he pointed to the screen where I could see two heads and two tiny heart beats.
“You got to be kidding me!” I gasped.
“Nope, this is no joke,” he chuckled. “Martin, by the way, my name’s Martin,”
“Whatever… Is there something wrong with them?” I asked.
“Well, one of them has a faint heart beat, and it may be a little slow at things in life, but other than that, they‘re both healthy and your good to go,” he said, positively.
“Oh…… Look at the time! I‘m off!” I pounced off of the bed and skipped out of the hospital, one hand in David’s, and the other on my twins. Head or ass, I couldn’t tell exactly.

I didn’t want to tell David that Dad told me about his promotion, so I left it, but I’m not very good at acting surprised when I already know what the surprise is. He taken me to Lemon Grass Manor. The restaurant David’s mom pointed out a few months ago.
David pulled my chair out and whispered: “Sit. I have something to tell you,”
“What?” I whispered back, trying not to burst out with laughter.
“You’ll see,” he muttered and sat down himself.
“Here, look at this,” David passed me a brown paper envelope with his name written on the front. “What do you think it is?”
I gave a massive puff to show I couldn’t figger it out. “I honestly haven’t got a clue,” which I didn’t. I didn’t know what it was. I was quite literally bursting.
“Open it!” He chanted, as I peeled open the seal. It was his check, more money than he gets in a week.
“What did you get promoted to?!” I said, it was so much money he couldn’t have just gotten promoted to a lousy till supervisor.
“Who told you, Jess?” David sighed.
“Dad. I think he’s a little peeved off, that you got promoted above him, and the fact you haven’t even been there for two months,” I spilled, looking at the menu. The soup of the bloody day was twelve ninety-nine. Me and David decided to skip starters, and go straight to the main, for the best, I think.

3rd Of March
Mum is starting to go mad as she now has to buy double the stuff she already got. I’ve told everybody I know, not quite but still, about the gender and the twin thing. I guess it ran in my family. My Mum is a twin, and so is my step-dad and so is Harry. No, Harry’s not, that would just be a total nightmare.

Dad’s face was glowing red. He was fuming. Literally. I had just told him about the twins. His pupils in his eyes and shrunk, the whites of his eyes were bloodshot. He looked as if he was going to cry.
“I can’t believe this! Twins? Twins!?” Dad acted like I hidden it from him for nine months.
“Yes, Dad, twins,” I yawned.
“It’s bad enough you’re pregnant but now you got to tackle being a mother to twins! Your not even legally allowed to buy alcohol yet! How are you, let alone the babies, going to survive in the real world?” I could tell why he was angry. But this is my problem. Not his. I know I sound selfish but he’s always sticking his nose in my business it’s hard to do your own thing half the flipping time.
“I have David! He’s twenty just after the twins are due and I’m eighteen in two months time so stop freaking out, OK?” I gasped for my breath.
“It’s just… Since me and your Mum divorced, I-…” his voice trailed off to the sound of Susan’s car pulling up to the drive way.
“I want the best for your kids. I don’t want the pain you went through happening to the twins.” He managed to speak. Susan crashed in, her lisp at the ready, with eight shopping bags full of crap.
“Look, honey! I found the seaside jigsaw, we can start on this straight after naptime!” She is way too over excited for Dad.
“Well, I best be off, I have… exciting things to do, if you like,” I sang as I stumbled out the door. “And Dad,” he looked up. “I’m here for you,” he gave me the kind of smile that says: ‘I understand but I really don’t like this kind of heart-to-heart talk, so please leave’. I laughed at the thought, and walked away.

5th Of March
Phoned Catherine today, to see if she wanted to do some quick shopping with me. She has her three niece’s over, so she can’t. Phoned Carly, to see what she’s up too. I haven’t seen her since her birthday bash.
“Hey, Carl’s. Are you busy?” I asked.
“Yep!” Carly replied, panting.
“What are you doing?” I wondered.
“My boyfriend’s over…” Carly began.
“OK! I think that’s all I need to know, toodles,” I cut her off and put the phone down. I decided to call David’s sister, she’s nice enough.
“Hello, is this Sam?” I asked, nervously. I haven’t spoke to Sam in three weeks, and she can get touchy a lot.
“Ooh! Is this Jessica?” She screamed.
“Yes, yes it is. Is this Sam?!” I asked again.
“Oh my gosh! Hi, Jess! I haven’t seen you in, like, forever!”
“Mmm, yes. Is this SAM?” I yelled.
“We should go out! Wanna go shopping for your twins? David told me, he is so excited, bless him,” she sniffed.
“SAM?! IS THIS SAM I AM TALKING TO?!” I howled down the phone.
“Oh, look at the time! I’ll call you again later, honey, byeeee,” and she shoved the phone down before I could say bye myself.
Have I said she can ignore you a lot?

I eventually gave up on calling people, I phoned Mum, she was out, I phoned Bex, she was working, I phoned Ginny, she has the flu and then I tried David, but he was working too! Why am I the only one who has nothing to do? Except from Susan, I’m the only one who is boring. They’re probably talking about me now: “Ooh, that Jess is so needy. Doesn’t she have a life?” or “Jessica Reynolds has nothing better to do than bother me everyday.” So from now on, I have decided no more calling people unless they want me to.
I told this to David, and for a split second I thought he was going to die from laughter. Sometimes I really can’t tell what’s going through his head.

7th Of March
Derek said he would take me the zoo tomorrow. I laughed in his face and told him to get real. He looked really hurt so I’m not sure he took it as a joke.
“I’m seventeen, nearly eighteen, Derek. I’m not nine,” I snigger, looking at Harry as he laughs whilst playing on his Xbox, or whatever boys call it these days.
“Sorry, your Mum told me we need some bonding time. I wasn’t sure what a pregnant seventeen year old and a useless step-dad could do together so I just went for the things me and Harry used to do together,”
“We could go to Gold Park,” I mentioned.
His face lit up and smiled gleefully.
“That’s brilliant, Jessica! I’ll pick you up tomorrow at nine o’clock,” he replied. “Oh, wait. You still live here,” he muttered, sarcastically.
You can tell my petty mother told him to say something along those lines. She is desperate for me to move with David, so she can use my room as an art gallery for her work that she paints. At the moment they’re all cluttered in her closet.
So, nine o’clock. A crappy golf course. Me. My step-dad. Bonding. Oh poo.
I know, I was the one who said about the golf course in the first place, but I didn’t want him to be disappointed with me. I mean, who can’t e disappointed with a pregnant seventeen year old, who has no job, and isn’t moving out of her family’s house anytime soon. At least I want to stay. Harry says he’s moving the first chance he gets. That’s teenage boys for you. Moan moan. Whine whine. Girls girls. Football football. Willies willies. You get the idea.

8th Of March
That was so not fun. For one, Derek was driving. I could have driven, I have got a licence, but nooooo. Derek said I am not capable of driving because I’m pregnant. That is bullshit. I’m not even that big, but he still insisted he should drive. And that’s only the start of it.
We walk in, and the first thing we do is play pool. I never came to that damn place to play pool. Anyway, after the short game where I accidentally stabbed some gorgeous guy in the ass, we paid to play golf. The first two hours were fun, but when we stayed and played until four o’clock, I started to get bored. Really bored. So bored, I started flirting with the guy who got stabbed in the butt. Luckily, Derek was playing air hockey on his own, so he was occupied for a while.
“You new here?” the fit guy asked.
“Yes, me and my…-” I turned to see Derek acting like a retard. “…Just me, I came by myself,”
“Hey, Jess! Look, I won!” Derek yelled, laughing.
I acted like I never knew him.
“Are you… Jess? Jess Reynolds?” he asked me, rubbing his neck.
“Yes. I am, do you know me?” I replied.
“Oh my gosh! Jess! I know you. You went to The Doves choir when you were, like, nine,” oh crap. I remember him. He’s Edmund, the really posh kid who used to pull my hair in choir practise.
“Edmund?” I answered eventually.
“No! I’m Sean. We went out when we were fourteen, do you remember, I was the one who wrote you a poem and read it out in front of the whole of year nine!” Oh double crap. It’s him. He’s much cuter now. Well, at least he isn’t catty Edmund. He used to bitch about everyone to his mates. He’s gay, now, I think.
“Oh, Sean. Okay, urm…… I got to go now, bye!” and I ran off.

10th Of March
When I got home, I went into the basement and dug out my old school stuff. I found a school photo, ninth row, fifth in, I was. Sean was third row, eighth in.
Then I found the poem. The poem he read out to me, which I got scared to even look at when I was a kid.
Dear my love, Jessica Reynolds.
Roses are red
Violets are blue
If you break up with me, I will kill you

And now you see why I ran away.
We went out for three months, then I got my old friend, Kat, to break up with him for me. He didn’t kill me, obviously, but he didn’t throw extra raising flour into my cake mix in home economics, and it exploded in the cooker.
But I got my own back in Chemistry though. We were making something, can’t remember what, but I put some explosive chemicals into his mixture, and it blew up (only faintly, which was a shame. He deserved a good bashing) the colour blue all over his face. It was hard to remove and he had a blue face for three weeks. Revenge is sweet.

According to my midwife, I’m the perfect size. I’m so pleased that I’m not oversized or undersized (I wish). Mum is driving me up the wall, she keeps going on about how I’m going to cope with two kids in a fairly big house with my ‘irresponsible’ boyfriend. We had a massive argument which led me storming out… And moving out. I went over to David’s red faced, and we both agreed to moving into the house in two days time.

Angrily, I went over to Bex’s to have a talk. She was so supportive and told me that exact kind of thing happened with her and her step-mum. She offered me to sleep the night, so I was happy to oblige.
The only problem with that is her son’s. Two year old boys waking you up at five in the morning to play Bob the builder is not cool. And Bex’s boyfriend, Adam, isn’t very good with them, either. He’s chasing them around, which is encouraging them to misbehave.
Then it struck to me: David will be like this. I know it. Yeah, Adam isn’t the real father to Hayden and Nathaniel, but he is kinda. David won’t be very good at controlling kids, let alone his own niece.
I’m not giving hints that I’m pregnant with boys, though. So don’t go guessing!

15th Of March
Moving out was actually very easy. All we had to do was collect all the stuff I wanted and what David needed, then we shoved them in the car and driven off. That evening Mum came storming in, making it even harder to forgive her for shouting at me, and came and started saying I should have apologized. I was outraged so I decided this was for the best:
“Leave. Just leave Mum. Your not making this any better, your just making it worse. Leave now or I’ll call the police,”
I meant it. Okay, I wasn’t going to call the cops, but I was tempted too.
Anyway, I’m waiting for Mum to say sorry. That could be years ahead now, so I’ll be waiting a long long time.

Oh my gosh, I love this book. It has to be one of my favorite books on this site. The emotions, the drama, the details make it seem so real, yet so fiction. Keep up the good work and make this book a great one!
