It’s Christmas time
But the Christmas lights have lost their glow.
Those nostalgic carols that once brought so much joy
Are now the sound of monotony.
Meaningless tunes that have fallen
On too many deaf ears.
They sing of love and happiness
But last night the only thing I heard
Was the sound of furious neighbours
As they fought over their credit card bill.
And the only love I’ve observed
Was that of my sister’s love
For all those brightly wrapped parcels.
Christmas, the day that once meant everything
the day of magic - of change,
new beginnings and hope.
Now is just some word on a card,
with as much depth as all the cheesy christmas songs
that we're forced to sing each year.
