“Lucy, come one, we need to leave for school in five minutes,” my mom yells from downstairs.
“One second mom, I'm coming,” I yell back. I only have three more weeks until I turn sixteen, can get a car and drive myself to school and can't wait.
I finish my hair, grab my phone and run downstairs while thinking about youth group last night. The main message was to find someone, whether it was at church, at school, or in our neighborhood and focus on their needs. The end goal was to bring them to Christ. Since we only had a week to find someone, I decided to start looking today. Though some people make fun of me for my beliefs I will stand by them and helping others come to know and recognize the truth is something I have always wanted to do and this is my chance.
Running into the kitchen, I quickly throw all my school stuff into my bag, grab a biscuit off the kitchen table and run out the door and into the car where I am quickly forced into the back row by my three older brothers.
___________
We pull into the school parking lot where we all jump out of the car and pile onto the sidewalk as my brothers and I all go to the same high school. My twin older brothers, Jason and Austin, are seniors this year while my twin brother John and I are sophomores. Though Jason and Austin are identical their personalities couldn't have been more different. Jason is basically the stereotypical varsity quarterback and though he does care about his grades more than is fellow teammates, they aren't his first priority. Austin on the other hand is the type of person who begins to freak out if his GPA falls below a 5.0 and the very idea of catching a baseball or football makes all color drain from his face. My and John's personalities are more identical than theirs is.
“I love you mom,” I yell as she pulls away, “and tell dad I love him too,”
“I love you to honey and I'll tell him, have a great day,” she responds while driving away.
Glancing up I see a girl who is in my biology class, staring at me with a mix of a hurt and angry expression on her face. I only know her through science but call her name anyway. Hearing her name, she turns around and briskly walks into school.
As I watch her disappear into the crowd, I can't get her hurt expression out of my mind. I immediately know that I want her to be the person who's needs I focus on and bring to Christ.
