You went to Nationals this summer, didn't you? How did that go?

Oy, it killed me--though in the best way possible. ^_~ It was up at 5:00 in the morning because my hotel-roommate had to 'wake-up'...for hours, supposedly and turned all the lights on. At the venue 'til 6:00 or 7:00 PM, competing half the time, warming up with fellow club-members the rest. #_# ...Worth it, though.

You ought to try out for JOs - you can't lose by trying. ^_^

Yeah, that's what I figure. I hope to make team captain next year, but ... we'll see how that goes. :)

Nationals sound fabulous!! You must be pretty good, eh? What are you ranked (cuz I assume you're ranked...)?

Not brilliant on ranking... I was sick for too many big tournaments. Only 'E' last year. !_!

I'm a huge fan in the fencing department! I'm also a lefty, so I guess I'm automatically an evel person, huh? Huh? Here's a little verse my stepmom taught me: Lefties rule, righties drool! I'm just kidding.

Oy, no--'tis fun to fence left-handed and just as fun (often...) to fence them. ^_^ (Though yes...rather evil, all the same...^_~)

Do you fence competitively? Which weapon?

So how long have you been doing it?
Do you win alot?

I've been fencing...near on 5 years. I win when I try to, and try less than I ought at times. ^_~ In other words, I play with my opponents at times when I need to be going for the touch.

It's fun to fence lefties, though. Mostly. It makes one think a different way.

I suppose you've been fencing at least a year? Foil? Sabre? More than one weapon?

*radiates big, green waves of envy at all the fencers present*

Greetings, Imp! Not that I haven't talked to you before....I think. Anyway. I'm not a fencer, much as I'd like to be. Gyr insists that I'm an archer, but that may not be strictly true. But I am the oldest of six!

Now, dare I ask what the difference between a foil and a sabre is?

Daring from a distance can't ever hurt. ^_~

A foil is simply a pointal weapon, derived from a rapier--light, finesse blade; all touches are scored with the tip.

A sabre has a blade, cutting edge on one side (not that it's particularly sharpened for competition--it's not, of course) and touches can be with tip or edge. It was the cavalry weapon, and so scoring or target area is everything above the waist, nothing below; head counts.

Sabre tends to be what's used for the theatrical. ^_^''

Interesting. Very interesting.

Épée, foil, sabre... Either way I would end up disarming you :)

Épée though.

Too often we crave the extraordinary in life, without even learning how to cherish the ordinary first. Friend, I promise you this: if you can learn to take joy in the simple mundane things in life, the extraordinary will take care of itself, it'll be on its way, hurrying towards you. But if you skip the first part, it'll ever evade you.
