Critique Sammiches

The Critique Sandwich is a great idea. But there are other reviewing techniques, I'm sure. I'm also sure this topic has been done before, but... ah well.

So, what's your personal technique? And what do you expect from a review?

I don't review in the traditional sense. What I prefer to do is just 'comment' on the piece and say what they did well or not well and why avoiding grammar discussion and layout for the most part. Thus my reviews are generally shorter and more encouraging/informative in the form of opinion.

I use a Critique Spread. That is, I point out nitpicks and inconsistencies first, then afterwards I talk over positive points. I only use a Critique Sandwich if the story is too good for it to have a great many nitpicks.
