Something along the lines of "Hi, I'm new"

I never understood the point of a subject line in a welcome thread. Everyone's new, so the subject should be rather obvious. I guess it all waters down to the want for attention, which every human needs and enjoys. Everyone wants to be accepted. I crave it too.

But that isn't why I write. Or why I should write, I suppose I should say, but that's for later.

Anyway, I'm called several things. My name is Hannah, and while one might think it's interesting to have a palindrome for a name, I should point out that this one is not as interesting as one might think. I can't derive any nicknames from it, which has bothered me since I was small. Needless to say, when one finds themselves nickname-less, they tend to make nicknames they find interesting for themselves. Freely call me my username or Moony. BBCB would also make my day. It stands for Big Brown Cardboard Box, and nothing says keep writing like a big cardboard box sitting in the middle of your room. I have my leetle paper TARDIS sitting on top of it. Yes, I'm a Doctor Who fan. No, you won't hear anything about it unless you really want to.

Now to my problem. I know this all probably sounds very self-centered right now, but I do really need help. My goal is a trilogy. A very specific trilogy too, not just a goal to write three books I have yet to come up with. In fact, it's quite the opposite. I've had this trilogy together for at least 4 years and I'm suddenly desperate, but can't seem to find a place to start. I have everything, Everything, together. All my characters, the plots, etc. I just can't seem to get it down. That's always been my flaw. Even if I start, I can't seem to get very far even if I start at a run. People say "Just write", but my question is, "How does one 'Just Write!'??" It's so broad and all around unhelpful. I can't seem to decide where to start (my greater interest lies in the third book, but doesn't one normally start on the first?) and I'm so desperate for help, I've put my dilemma in my intro topic. Mods, freely flush my problem into an appropriate area if you feel it's needed. My greatest thanks and hello to all.

-Hannah

Welcome, Hannah! It's nice to meet you, I'm Stella :) Firstly, where are you from? That's always a fun way of getting to know someone.

Secondly, I love Doctor Who. I was watching it last night actually. Who's your favourite Doctor? I've only watched the new seasons so I'm going to have to say Matt Smith- David Tennant was wonderful but he got so angsty near the end. I guess that's the writers' fault.

Thirdly, I know the feeling. Sometimes the trick is not to start at the beginning and instead write a scene you want to write and go from there. The beginning will come later.

Alternatively, you have fifteen minutes to write the first 1000 words and PM them to me before I get you banned from YWS. Or something motivational like that. I know, "Just write" is aggravating but in the end, it's what's going to get you going. Even if what you write is terrible.

So here's hoping you find your muse and you stick around on YWS!

Welcome to YWS!

Now, I don't want to be the person that's all bubbly and nice, and then never speaks to you again, so I'll get right to your problem.

I'd tell you where you could start, but I have no idea what you're trilogy's about. If it's about going to a new school or something, you could start with the first day of school. You could start with a dramatic event, to capture the readers attention, and then mellow out to get to know the characters better. I'm not sure I can really tell you where to start anyway. After all, it is your story.

I hope I kind of helped. Sorry if I was a big disappointment... :(

Hi, Hannah! :D

I always struggled with the subject line too. xD They're all somewhat the same. Some sort of derivative from "Hi, I'm new!" But it looks like you've got past that obstacle, so it's a thing of the past now. (pastpastpast)

EEEEEE! I love Doctor Who! My mom just bought me the fifth season. :3 I'm so excited. Matt Smith is, so far, my favorite of the recent three. They're all good in their own way, but I much prefer Matt Smith. So far, of course.

I have the same problem as you with writing. =/ People ask me why I don't post, but the real answer to that is I just can't write. xD I have so many ideas. I love planning stories. I'll even type up detailed outlines, but I'm so afraid to just start writing. It's really not good. But as a musician, I have to look at it like I'm sight-reading a piece of music. It's not gonna be perfect, but the only way I can make it sound good later in life is if I just start playing it now. So I would take a very small scene at a time. Think through every detail (which sounds like you know them already) and write just that scene. Works for me. Takes forever, but it works!

Feel free to ask more questions (or look up answers) in Writing Tips, the Knowledge Base, or anywhere else, really. We're all happy to help you and also learn from the discussions you start. :)

See you around!

Heyo!

See now, 'Just Write' only works if you can also [strike] 'Just Edit' [/strike] 'Edit Ferociously!'

And we're here to help you :D Send me a private message when you've posted your work, or maybe an outline for the first chapter... you could post that somewhere. See you around!

Hey there!

I love Doctor Who. So much. I think you'll find a lot of fellow Whovians here. I got one of those remote control Daleks for Christmas, which provides me with hours of amusement.

I would love to help you with your writing problem, but I'm such a complete fail at writing that I would feel like a hypocrite attempting to give anyone tips on how to write a story!

Anyway, I hope you have a lovely time here! If you do want a review, or have a question, feel free to send me a PM and I'll see what I can do!

See you around,

Amy
