Greetings Comrades!

Hello everyone!

I ran across this site while searching for writing resources and groups. Perhaps I will post some of my own works and review some things here and there. I consider myself new to the writing craft but have desires to grow my abilities and contribute to this community. I've read several books on writing, but I'm still a beginner. To test out some of the things I am learning, I have begun writing a space pirate novel-- "Tales of Treachery Across Space and Time"

I'm from the failed state of California and attend junior college in Bakersfield. Although I have spent one semester in New Mexico and another in Oklahoma, I decided to move back to California for financial reasons. I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy among other genres but for some reason I have very little desire to read anything contemporary. I first started writing a few years ago while playing D&D, as I was a game master and needed to write adventures and quests for the players to embark on.

Other than reading and writing, I enjoy running, meditating, taking care of plants, driving too fast, drinking too much, and staying up too late. I say what I mean and mean what I say.

Favorite authors (by no means complete): Hermann Hesse, Fyodor Dostoevsky, Arthur C. Clarke, Hunter S. Thompson.

Hey Colditz, welcome to YWS! I like the sound of your novel already -- if you ever need someone to read it, let me know! I'm a fantasy fan myself, dabbling a little bit in sci-fi (Hitchhiker's Guide and Orson Scott Card's books are really the only ones I've read).

A lot of us have stumbled here by complete accident. It's really kinda funny when you think about it! How we all have our own story about how we ended up here. Maybe funny's not an appropriate word for this... Maybe awesome?

I've never played D&D, but I've played much similar games before. In fact, gaming is partially why I still write stories! It started with Harry Potter, but there are some awesome games with cool storylines. You can't help but be inspired!

Ooh, you're a gardener, so to speak? I don't have a green thumb whatsoever. It's very peach, if not red. (Or what's the term, black something or something... eh.) Don't give me any plants you have. One touch and they're gone. D:

So, Welcome to YWS!
I love sci-fo and fantasy too! Well, I mean, I grab onto any good-sounding sci-fi as fast as I can. But I do delve a lot into contemporary. I've always wanted to try Herman Hesse. Never those books at my library.

Ooh, D&D! My friends and I just started playing. We're very much newbies to D&D and well, with college for three of us, it's progressing really slow.
Hee, gardening can be fun!

If you're looking for a place to better your writing skills then this is certainly a wonderful place to start. From my experience, I've learned a lot from YWS and I'm sure you will too, given the chance.

Wow, a space pirates novel sounds quite epic. I like sci-fi but it's hard to find a good sci-fi book. Maybe I'm just bad at finding one so if you have any suggestions, shoot. ^^

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the site as much as the rest of us do. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know or anyone else in green (they be the mods).
