Probably the biggest thing off with this is Charlie himself - don't get me wrong, he's still awesome, but he doesn't have as much... spirit? I guess. He's a lot more pessimistic. Which, a lot can be explained by the killing, his reaction, but reading the first chapter then reading this, you'd swear it was two different people. Even just the style of writing is different (not blatantly so, but the little stylistic things that separate characters, like how you write him compared to Zoey).
I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Personally, I really liked Chapter 1 Charlie (ain't that a snazzy nickname =) ). But this person is also good too. I think the writing itself is better here. But, I'd edit one of these, fix it, make it consistent. And work on keeping them all consistent, though they probably are I'd guess.
Oh, and the whole thing where Austin's dad said murder, that was a little... I don't know. I'm not sure what to take from that. But of course, that's just a teensy thing I'd thought I'd mention anyways.
Other than that, there isn't really much to comment on. You have well-developed characters, good plot, nice descriptions... I barely even know why you asked me here! (Other than, of course, to get buried in well-deserved compliments.)
Hopefully next part I'll be at least a little more helpful, because right now my reviews of you are extraordinarily lame.
