By the Light of the Moon

So, someone recently posted some pictures of the moon, which inspired me to take some of my own. These are my attempts:

So, please keep in mind that I have no shutter speed control, manual focus, and I live in the middle of a huge city. The focus is off, and I had to do some editing in order to rid of the grain. There's still quite a bit, and I wish I could do more, but I unfortunately only have the editing program that's included with my computer. Suuuper basic.
I'm hoping to get some better ones once these stupid clouds go away again.

I love these photos - they're both really pretty.
The first one seems to be cold, but that's the effect you're probably going for, however I would have added a border onto this one. The black somehow seems sort of overwhelming, and it needs to be toned down a bit. Next time, add a small white border - five or six pixels will be more then enough. The moon is the right size for how cold it is; it doesn't make the photo seem too full.
The second one has a lot of grain on it, like you mentioned. The moon is quite small here, and I think for this one the moon needs to be quite a bit bigger, either zoomed in on or cropped. The grain is a big distraction, but it's a good photograph.
Anyway, I just wanted to point out a couple of things. Number one is that they're both placed almost in the same place in both photographs: near the top-left hand corner. Next time, perhaps try taking a few more shots that show it in different areas of the photograph.

Finally, if you need some photo editing software, why not download GIMP or Picasa? Both are free and online. GIMP is made by the people that made Linux, and Picasa is made by Google, so they're both safe.

I too am curious on your camera. I can never get that much detail when we try pics of the moon.

I like them a lot and am in simple awe of the detail.

Aside from that, I like the placement of both, though would have liked it if it was maybe switched up a bit.

I like the second one more for the shear size of the picture. I find it more.. spacey for a lack of anything better.

These are amazing! There's just something about the moon that's so... intriguing? I love it, and I don't know how you get so much details. I tried to capture the same effect on time there was a full moon, and it was huge, but I didn't quiet succeed, because it was with my cell phone. I love your photos and the simpleness of them. Personally, I like the second one better because of the yellow light in it. It looks a little bit more inviting then the first one.

I always try to take pictures of the moon but it never works. Where are you to get the sky so clear?
I mean you can see any crator and everything. Though a few stars and a little bit of landscape would look nice

I loved these! I would be interested to see if you could go on ground level, and catch the moon in between two skyscrapers down the street with a full active image going on below. I think it would look excellent! Keep up the good work!

What camera have you been using?! Mine isn't nearly as good! I've been trying and trying to take pictures but no clue. i don't understand what the shutter stuff is all about. I have a tripod, all of it. My dad never had the time to teach me it all before he passed away! :G
Mines a Nikon D700 and the lense is HUGE.

The first photo is my favourite. Nice focusing and details, so good job!
Second one is nice, but I don't really like the yellowy tones as much.
Short review... but what can I say? You've done amazingly well with the camera you have (which isn't half bad btw ), and it's really the photographer, not the camera.

(ps-mystical blood, not to sound like a know it all (but i do know my cameras), a Nikon D700 is a fantastic camera, much much much better than my DSLR. it'll take a while to get used to, but when you do, you'll get AMAZING shots! ive had my boyfriend teaching me everything hehe)

I'd say these are pretty freakin good, considering your circumstances, haha. I really love the first photo - did you edit to make it that blue color, or is that just how the picture turned out? Anyway. Sorry for the short review, but there's really not much more I can say.

Your title reminds me of the song "Her Diamonds" by Rob Thomas. "By the light of the moon she rubs her eyes, says it's funny how the night can make you blind; I can just imagine"

Actually, the first pic is too simple for me but, nevertheless, it's picture perfect. I like the 2nd pic better because of the haziness and the 'mystery' it gives that surrounds it. They're both great anyway.
