Respect is something you lack to give,
If you will never respect anyone
You cannot expect to get Respect
For as long as you live.
You believe no one else is as important as you
To give someone respect is one thing you’ll never do.
You say respect has to be earned
To treat people how you want to be treated is something you never learned.
Then one day you saw an innocent person being pushed for no reason at all
And suddenly you awoke to your actions and felt so small.
Respect is a thing you can’t expect to get
Unless,
You return the respect you are given.

um...stop capatilzing respect. and you killed the rhythm for the sake of the rhyme. NEVER do that. go for rhythm first. it's very...choppy and awkward. still, you could make somthing of the topic. i'd suggest you start over.
Carpe Diem.

No offense, Angel, but I have to agree with xanthan in some respects (ack, awful pun, sorry). It does appear that you have sacrificed the rhythm - and consequently the flow - of your poem for the sake of making it rhyme. It's a common problem though, particularly with younger writers, so dont let it get you down; I'm sure you'll branch out when you're ready ... (God, did that sound patronizing or what? Basically, what I mean is, you'll find your own style eventually, so dont sweat it). I have to say, though, I particularly liked the ending here. Very effective, the way you abandoned the rhyme and went straight for the main point. Kudos!
Got a poem or short story you want me to critique?

There is only one success: to be able to spend your life in your own way, and not to give others absurd maddening claims upon it. (C D Morley)

This is one of the poems i was thinking about giving in to a competition about Respect. The other one was this:

RESPECT

I respect you because when you tell me not to do something you don't go and do it yourself.
I respect you because you don't expect me to respect you; you know you need to earn it.
I respect you because when you do wrong you don't run from your mistakes.
I respect you because you face up to the consequences of your actions.
I respect you because you face your fears as you believe you can overcome them.
I respect you because you taught me to learn from my mistakes, not to dwell on them.
I respect you because you treat others as you expect to be treated.
I respect you because you always stay true to what you believe in.
I respect you because you always let me have my own opinions and you never judge me for them.
I respect you because you respect those who deserve to be respected!

The day, which was one of the first of spring, cheered even me by the loveliness of its sunshine and the balminess of the air. I felt emotions of gentleness and pleasure, that had long appeared dead, revive within me. Half surprised by the novelty of these sensations, I allowed myself to be borne away by them, and forgetting my solitude and deformity, dared to be happy.
