Wow. This was such a powerful, powerful poem. The imagery, the language-it gave me chills (in a good way.)
My favorite stanza:

"and so the others souls can rot, can burn and
die in a charred husk of dirty skin and too-long fingernails,
still plagued by nightmares and reminders of a war that they never should have fought--
it doesn’t matter, because in the end

you have your God."

Wow. You've got yourself a new fan. :)

Heya! I just wanted to let you know that I read your poem and was completely and utterly taken in by the emotion and truth behind it. I especially love when you said "while facing forward with both hands on the wheel, watching the street while at a stop, and drowning in white noise instead of seeing the homeless man who sits and sobs on the curband doesn’t know what to do with his broken, used-up life, because he’s never really lived;" because what you say here is true, and it created an imagine in my mind :) It's wonderful and powerful!

They talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. I absolutely hate that phrase, but Lord knows it's pretty damn true.

I'm Christian, and I agree with a lot of this. If there's anything I'm tired of seeing, it's when people use their religion as a crutch and don't even follow what they believe. That goes for every religion in the world, including us. We're all human, and we all do the same thing, whether we have a God to believe in or we don't. So really, this could be directed to more than just Christians. It could be directed to humans as a whole. That's the sad part.

I really liked this piece. The only thing I can really critique is the capitalization. When the beginning words aren't capitalized, it seems somewhat unprofessional. But there is a lot of truth in this poem and it really shows how you feel. I really love when people are brave enough to actually speak their mind. Thank you for being one of those people!

This is not a review-- it is just a comment on the point of your poem and the other comments.
I am a Christian. I agree with your poem, mainly. You're right about it being fear and a judgemental additude that keeps us from reaching out to others. We haven't learned yet to trust GOD enough. What if the man on the side of the road is dangerous? What if people see us helping a prostitute and think badly of Christians? What if we give away that money and don't have enough to buy groceries? Usually we are so busy with our 'what ifs' that we can't hear GOD saying, "Trust me."
And you're right. We do look at the people around us and think, "They don't deserve our GOD."
And you know what? They don't. You don't. But all too often we forget that we don't deserve Him either. I don't deserve Him. Yet He loves us all the same.
Regardless of race, gender, religion, and abilities, GOD loves us. Me, you, and the children in Africa.
However, that reference in the comments about telling people that they are going to hell? I am going to risk seriously offending you all by saying, if you are not a Christian, you are going to spend eternity in hell. The Bible says that all have sinned (Romans 3:23), and that the punishment for sin is death (Romans 6:23). This "death" is not the physical death of the body. It is complete separation from GOD for eternity. And since all good things come from GOD, and all that is evil will also be separated from GOD, hell will not be a pleasant existance.
We Christians aren't good enough to go to heaven. That's not it. No, it is because GOD sent His son to pay the price for our sins. That means your sins too. If you "confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that GOD raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9) But if you don't believe in Christ, you are rejecting the free gift of life that GOD offers.
On the subject of other religions, I believe that only Christians will go to heaven. Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) The 'Father' is GOD.
So there you go. :)
I did like the poem a lot. It's funny because I've been thinking a lot about that lately.
If you have any questions, please PM me.

I must say, I've been following your work for sometime now, and this is the best I've read. I like how you acknowledge both sides of the story and how you work towards getting people to realize that they might be doing something that they didn't even think they were doing. You used good examples of people who may not be accepted by the so-called 'Good Christians', telling them that those people have problems that they can't even comprehend. This piece is very emotional. Great work!
